i am installing one with my stock turbo. ive seen tooky's video and it was very informative and helpful. I just need to know what to do with the stock turbo solenoid lines. Do i cap them off or just let them be?

the stock boost controller sucks ass one mine. it stays at 15 somtimes, others it will shoot to 19! qnd other times it will only hit 11. So with this i can controll it from under and overboosting and it has way better spool-up its a hands down decision for me, i understand the risk, but id rather have a risk then have my truck hit 20 pounds of boost with a 2 bar pitbull or not hit 15

this is a topic we will cover at nats code59 tech session.

Just like people make changes to the engine (bigger turbo, bigger injectors, better exhaust) all these changes WILL require changes to the chip. Same with boost control, change a turbo, exhaust, or any engine parts (in particular how it flows) and the boost control in the chip will need adjusted.

So I guess to say it sucks is about as true as if you plugged in a honda ecm and said it runs like crap. Stock data in the chip, ATR chip etc just isn't setup for anything other than bone stock combo in terms of boost control.

With that said the stock control is actually pretty good if you want to take the time to learn how it works and make some adjustments.

Code59 did make a few changes that help also.

I just personally don't like a manual control, too much "fingers crossed" that it works and doesn't overboost due to change in weather, someone kicked the knob, etc.

Re: Mannuel boost controller question

I just took it all off, put the old solenoid on the firewall with the electrical still connected to avoid any codes from the ecm(dont now if it will set any but....). Then I hooked the man.boost valve up between the outlet on the turbo housing and the wastegate with some silicone tubing I had laying around. Works like a charm.

Re: Manual boost controller question

It will only set codes if you go over max boost limit that is set in chip, ecm has no idea of the solenoid is attached or not.

Re: Manual boost controller question

Well all i really have besides the chip is a catback from atr. even before the exhaust when it was bone stock my boost controll was the same, always overboosting or underboosting. I tried replacing lines and everything and it still sucks. The only person under my hood is me so nobody will screw with it. My brother ran a manuel one for several years on his ty with no problems. I have a v-block, boost valve, aftermarket gauge and everything so if somthin happens ill know right away, i always look at my boost gauge when accelerating ALWAYS!!. So ill be fine. You are deffiantly right about reprogramming chips for certain parts. im gettin an ultimate soon anyways so it will be a lil better,
but im not worried at all about the controller, if i have it set right with the right parts it may be safer than having a vacum line break or a boot snap on the stock solinoid, idk just my opinon

thanks for the help though, you answered my question to some one else too haha

thanks

Re: Manual boost controller question

ultimates copied stock control for most part and later version didn't really include boost control at all due to this issue.

Do code59 and I could tune you solid boost control in 1hr tops. If it saw knock it would reduce boost, it will compensate for weather, gears, shifting, etc.

Yea im upgrading to the ultimate for a 3 bar, and ill still use the manuel controller with it. I just got my lisecene so maybe in a year or so i can meet up with you gurus of code 59 and whatnot. and when i get a bigger setup i may need to do code 59

thanks

Re: Manual boost controller question

You just need to come to nats, VA isn't that far away.

We have a good tech session on code59 and tuning in general (even BS3, DFI users will benefit).

I also am fairly sure we will have one hell of a raffle prize to give away at tech session.

Re: Manual boost controller question

i hooked it all up today, and it spooled-up alot faster but it only hits 11psi no matter how much i tighten it. Do i need to adjust the wastegate rod, or do you have to tighten it down alot to reach a higher boost level?
