I'm curious to see the pics. I want to see where the coils go.

For you and those curious, I have added a PIC of how I have my coils mounted.

Looks a lot easier and no machining of the balancer or mounting of the crank trigger. It sounds like it is just plug and play.

If you spend a little bit of time with a soldering iron, get the right connectors, this can be 100% plug and play with the notable exception of the coils. Maybe CKEITH can weld some mounts onto his valve covers so it can be totally bolt on :)

Could you send me a e-mail with the details of wireing and such? I'd like to do this with my wife's truck! I've got all MSD on it now coil,6AL box ect.
I know indivual coil per cyl is far superior to anything I can do with the existing system.

I need to write everything down and clean up my notes and then I will be posting it here.

If there was enough interest, I could pull the harness off and send it to Casper's to reproduce on demand for folks here that wanted to go this way.

Sendingthe harness to Casper is a good Idea. I would certainly go this route. I would think alot of other syty guys would go for it also. Why don't you take a poll? Count me in.

Re: LS1 Coil Setup - RUNNING!

I'll bet John at Caspers would do that for sure... I talked to him yesterday trying to help a guy that was doing some work on a Hybrid 92 Camaro with a TTA driveline.
If anything John could provide the connectors.
I'd be willing to fabricate a bolt on bracket for the valve covers that would go on each side to mount the coil packs. Then I can have it stamped out at a local shop.
I might be able to have a sensor cap made for the top of the dist. there so it'd be a bolt on deal. Along with a fake rotor that matches to send the signal. That way it'd look clean and have no other terminals for where the plug wires usto go. A friend of mine could CAD design the cap and he has a vendor for doing plastic parts. (he's the one who just made all the new front air dam's for the GN's.)
I'll help in any way I can!~

Ps.. .are you going to the nats?

I think it would be fun to open the hood with engine running and ask people how it is running (if you can hide other coils) Then touch one of the terminals on the cap while grabbing someones arms and scream. Should get them everytime.

Re: LS1 Coil Setup - RUNNING!

Lol... That would be fun!

I remember the oldest neighbor kid taking the wire off his "trail 80" motorcycle and having about 5 of us young kids hold hands and one brave one holding onto the plug wire as he kicked it over.

Damn.. no wonder I'm so F'd up.. :)

Re: LS1 Coil Setup - RUNNING!

I think if this could be remade for the price you've done it for it would be a SUPER deal. I'd be willing to do this in the future. Thats for sure. Nice job:tup:

Great work...!!!!!!
Where did you get the eDist and universal harness from?
I can get the rest of the parts from my vendor...
Thanks for your research and help this will be a HUGE improvement!

Hell I'm in! a sensor/modual that takes the place of the cap/rotor would be hella killer, really clean it up! i'll take one of those too! (well if they ever become available Lol)

Just thinking, i know Jeeps I6 had a CPS that literally just took the place of the distributor in the later 4.0's. I know you can use an old chevy I6 distributor in the 4.2's/286 motors. wonder if this could be adapted for use on the 4.3? it'd have to be made longer being that the dist is shorter on the I6 than the V6. i'll do some research

If you were planning on using the stock igniton with BS3, it would work just fine.

I bought mine from a board member a few years ago. I think Turbo Time sells them.

If it generates a 3x crank and 1/2x cam it would work. I have no idea how much work it would take though.

The harness will be going out to Capser's late this week. They said they would reproduce it for a run of 20 or so. So, the next step is to get a group buy setup for it and see if we can get the quantities required.

No idea to be honest. They said they would quote it once they get my harness to go from.

Re: LS1 Coil Setup - RUNNING!

If Caspers is going to make the harness will I need the part from Turbo Time?

Have you got anyone to help with the cap or the valve cover brackets for the coils? I can do that!

Please let me know if I can help... UR50SLO@aol.com

Thanks, Scott~

Re: LS1 Coil Setup - RUNNING!

Get to work on the cap! :p rather have something specific under my hood than a cut up dist cap. couldn't find anything that would take the place of it ie. jeep cam sensor etc etc... the jeep sensor is a 1 per 720 but there is no crank signal off of it, and i don't think it'd be easily adapted to our app.

I would rather buy a cap pre-made as well , hopefully you can get a wire harness + cap sale going .
