Intercooler blanket

Re: Intercooler blanket

Good news - I just got an email from PTB saying they have completed the prototype of the blanket!

I've asked them to send it to me so that I can test fit it. Once I'm satisfied with the fit/installation I'll give them the go ahead to produce a bunch of them.

I'll post pics here of my install of the prototype. Keeping my fingers crossed that they nailed the design on this first sample.

I'm still in for this. I'll be in school for the next 2 months, but I'll keep an eye out for this. Hope it works out!

Re: Intercooler blanket

Hey guys,
Got the prototype of the IC blanket just a few minutes ago. I think it looks good. We need to make a few mods but it's real close. I'll post some pics tomorrow morning... on the way out the door to the movies.

Re: Intercooler blanket

OK guys, here are the pics. IMHO it looks like a good piece.
- It fits well, although I'm going to make some suggestions for improvement.
- It CAN be installed without taking the IC off, although it would be a bit of a pain due to all that is in the way.
- I'm going to recommend they go to a velcroed flap to cover the cap - as it is now there is no real way to get the overflow tube out of the IC cover.

- One thing that isn't real good is that the mesh screen that forms the underlayment for the insulating material, is pretty rough... it scratched up my blingy, polished IC. I'll speak with them about adding a layer of something soft.

I'm not sure how long the changes will take. I'll get it mocked up and sent back to them today. They sent me your IC, Mike. I'll have to send it back to them so that they can verify the changes.

Re: Intercooler blanket

I like it! I'm still down for one once the changes you're gonna suggest to them get put into it.

Re: Intercooler blanket

The easier the install/removal, the better. I'm hoping that I can put it on for driving and take it off for the weekend cruise nights and car shows. My CAC is powder coated gray and I like to show it off:D

Re: Intercooler blanket

You can count me in as well, if it goes on without IC removal.

Is there maybe enough room at the top for a thin brick of dry ice?

Re: Intercooler blanket

Sorry about the delay on this one guys.... I'm now working two jobs so don't have much free time these days.

Here's where we are on this...

I received this first blanket from PTB. I think that it can go on without taking the IC off. However, with my blingy polished upper IC I scratch the IC every time I try, because there is a fine wire mesh on the underside of this IC blanket, just like on a turbo blanket. So, I've decided not to try and wrestle it on my IC.

It does fit fine on the IC that Mike provided for test fitment. Since my circumstances have changed I think I'll forego trying to do this group purchase... I don't like doing something unless I can give it my best, and do it quickly.

If someone else wanted to do the GP that would be fine with me (I would suggest verifying the fit personally, so that you're satisified with the product - I am).

If no one else wants to pick up on this and do the GP, then members can simply call PTB and order an "upper IC blanket for a GMC Syclone or Typhoon"... they've got the pattern in stock now.

Thanks, and sorry for not going through with this GP

Also, if someone wants to purchase this one from me (cost me $130.00), I'll sell since I don't want to scratch up my highly polished IC.
