I'm so clueless with this Ty

Okay, so first of all, excuse the dumb question, but where would the oil filter be located?

Second, the pan under the torque convertor (at least I think this is correct considering the ATF leak), has a hole drilled in it and no plug screwed in? I'll post some pictures of this tomorrow. Again, excuse the dumb question, but would someone do this on purpose?

TIA and sorry for sounding like such a moron.

Oil filter is mounted behind the driver's side headlight. You will have to pull the factory intake tubing off or aside because the air filter box blocks the oil filter.

As far as a pan under the TC, are you talking about the torque converter cover?

Yes, I think so, in between the oil pan and the transmission pan. There is a spot for a plug and no plug and also a hole drilled in it. I'll take pictures in the morning.

That sounds like it for a support rod that is sometimes used for 4x4's or a skid plate. It wasn't used on my Ty,just a universal part from gm's pile of parts that is used on the ty's.

Don't forget to top off the headlight fluid... Synthetic is prefered.

Re: I'm so clueless with this Ty

Ha, very funny. No, it was a real question. I've only done minor work on my WRX, and I assumed the oil filter on my Typhoon was the fuel filter (on my WRX, it's located in a similar spot inline). I wasn't looking for an inline oil filter. I was searching for it under the car, assuming it was like my WRX.

Would you really ban someone for asking a simple question? Those who deny freedom to others, don't deserve it themselves. Quickstop (UK), let's face it you're just mad that I won the swaybar and you're trying to be vindictive. And what's wrong with my other posts? I'm just trying to figure out how to proceed with my car. It's pretty messed up that I should even have to defend myself for asking a simple question. Hey, DaveP, give me an example of my posts that are pissing you off.

Hey Jimmy, I don't know what IP check time means, but I wonder what authorities governing this forum might think of you hacking into my personal information.

Is the inspection cover you are referring too. There are 4 bolts total that hold it on. yes there is supposed to be a hole in the bottom and no a plug doesn't go in there. If your pump seal is bad or the converter wasn't seated properly it will leak trans fuild from there, if its oil coming out your rear main seal is leaking.

Re: I'm so clueless with this Ty

thanks GreenTyGuy,

I just finished changing the filter (after finding it, honestly thought it was the fuel filter at first). But noticed in my chilton's manual (which also has no picture of where the oil filter is located), that it mentions to drain the oil cooler also, I haven't done much looking, but is there a drain on the oil cooler itself?

I'm going to the garage again pretty soon to take a picture of the inspection cover to get confirmation that we are talking about the same thing. I'm still having trouble getting a good idea of where the transmission fluid leak is coming from, but will focus on this next.

Re: I'm so clueless with this Ty

Come-on, seriously?

Every novice mechanic or shade tree mechanic knows what a oil filter looks like...they all pretty much look the same!

If you don't know what a oil filter looks like or where it should be or coming from, I would suggest that you go buy yourself a chiltons book for s-10's at your local automotive store and read it from front to back. (all of this being spoken in a big brother voice, not sarcastic)

You have a long road ahead of you i see.

Goodluck, and remember search is your friend here!

(in my best yoda voice) May the syty.net search be with you! :D

But then again i don't think anyone has ever asked where the oil filter was?.....lmao

Re: I'm so clueless with this Ty

I would say there are people that don't know information like this but those people don't work on there own stuff. So if this isn't BS take the truck to someone who can actualy work on it

Re: I'm so clueless with this Ty

Please stop clogging up this with your insight on how bad of a mechanic I am. I just want answers to my questions. I have threads where I do ask for opinions, this isn't one of them. I have chilton's manual and alldata and either show where the oil filter is located.

Re: I'm so clueless with this Ty

If you are talking about the dust cover for the TC, the hole at the bottom is not supposed to have anything in it. I am pretty sure it is there so the cover does not load up with fluid when leaking.
