I/C issues

SyTyless......for now!
Just replaced my IC pump with a different unit, and remote mounted it closer to the upper IC, due to lack of room. This is the pump I decided to try:

Here's how everything is routed: Upper IC, lower port- rubber hose going to pump inlet, pump outlet to hose, hose to lower IC upper port. Lower IC lower port to upper IC upper port. The lines had been converted to heater hose by a past owner, and run through the fender. The pump is sitting in front of the blower motor behind the overflow bottle (which had to be shifted forward) MS paint:

Problem is, the pump doesnt seem to be pumping, (higher whine, no movement in upper IC), but when it "catches" and does pump, it sends a large surge of coolant to the upper IC, along with air bubbles, forcing coolant out of the upper IC fill cap, making coolant run down everywhere. I have a feeling that something is messed up somewhere, or its simply the wrong kind of pump. Help please!!

Sounds like there is air in the system. I would run the pump with the ic cap off until it purges all the air.

Re: I/C issues

pump is mounted too high. had the same problem with my sy, put the pump under the battery tray.

much lower spot, feeds it by gravity.

also.... if any of your lines go higher than the filler neck, the system will always have air in it, and do the surging and air bubbles you speak of.

just remember filler neck is king,...it should be higher than all others...period.

Re: I/C issues

Looking at the stats, that is a hell of a lot of current for the pump

this is what a lot of people use:

Have you bled the air? Check the polarity as well as it might be pumping the wrong way. You have your hoses ok, but the chances are that there is a ton of air in your radiator.

Try re-arranging the hoses on the lower and flush it with coolant/water until the hose at the top is pumping water. Have someone help you swap the hoses back once it is getting steady flow. You will still have a small amount of air but that will eventually be forced out with time...

I think your current draw will prove problematic in the long run as well.

Re: I/C issues

Im having the same issue on the stocker right now (i know old post blah blah) and it does the exact same thing. I squezzed the IC hoses and left the cap off the IC. Let it run for about an hour and nothing has changed. Still runs exactly the same. Little to know movement untill you hear the pump bog down and it surges coolent down the IC. Any other way to get the air out?

Re: I/C issues

Pull the upper inter cooler off of its mount so it will help purge the air from the IC.

Re: I/C issues

I'll tell you what worked for me. Hot wire the pump, so that you dont have to run the engine. As the pump is running, squeeze and release both hoses for about 10 min near the ic. This will push the air out.

Re: I/C issues

Im gona have to combo it, Lift the upper IC and squeeze the hoses.
I may just go ahead and relocate/change the hardlines today since im already having this much trouble. Haha itll save me from having to burp it again.
