I am lost...

Re: I am lost...

I'm running 17.5psi with no knock with just about the same build on pump gas. You don't need any meth or h2o to run those those levels. Anyways, I was just curious where the boost was at. Does it hold 15psi? With a clogged cat it will usually reduce the boost levels. I had a clogged cat and chased the problem for 6 months before I finally discovered it. Truck had no power and hardly built boost.

Re: I am lost...

Are there any other tale tales that show a bad cat?

I some of my old Datamaster files, with a manual boost valve, show that the boost would peck the fall off about 2-4 psi.

You been running rich? Is it the stock cat=old as dirt? Boost dropping was the biggest thing I noticed. Everything else ran fine on my truck. No knock, low boost pwr levels were fine, mpg were still good, just WOT boost and pwr was not so good when mashing it.

I agree, i had the same issue. Drove the truck everyday with out skipping a beat. Just didn't have any power at WOT and boost wasn't acting like it should. Had a brand new cat that came with my RPM kit, took me 6 months to convince myself that was the problem. I didn't want to believe a 3 month old cat could go bad... well it did. I hollowed it out and it's all good now

Re: I am lost...

Just checked it again and, It is back at 0 but I did notice that the plug location on the distributor cap is off by one, but the timing is still correct. Would this effect timing?

What do you mean its off by one?? Do you mean the firing order is correct but #1 is not where you think it should be? If thats the case then your timing would either be way retarded or way advanced.

Well I did some research and found there is another way to test the Cat. It is called a Exhaust Back pressure tester, but the dam thing cost $50 or I could just buy and new Stainless steal cat for $75 shipped. Just to make sure this is or is not the problem.

There location on the cap was one ahead. I put them back on in the correct location on the cap and re timed it and still no power.

Mike from RPM told me that I was maxed out on 15 psi with 91 pump gas. Who did your tuning? I am using a RPM chip.

After looking back through some datamaster files I have seen a boost peck then it falls off a little like maybe 1-3 psi.

Re: I am lost...

I ordered a new high flow cat and it is on its way. I am also going to have a cut out installed, but here in Cal the new smog laws say the Cat's must match a CARB approved cat for the car. So come October it may get cut all off.

After the new cat is on, I will try again. Hopefully it fixes the power problem.

I had Nolan tune my truck. 17.5 psi 0 knock on 93 octane pump gas.

Re: I am lost...

Well gentlemen the cat looks great. Cut it out and looks like new. I can see right through it. So I am back to square one.

Good afr, exhaust, turbo, boost controller, compresstions great, leak down is perfect, still no power.

Any thoughts????!!?

Re: I am lost...

Compression checks out great. I am having trouble finding TDC. I put my two piece piston stop in and no dice, It did not stop the motor. Is there a different way of doing this??

What ever it takes!!

Eric remove the driver's side valve cover and watch for the intake valve to open on the #1 cylinder. Then keep turning the crank until you see the timing mark come around to the tab mark.
That is it.:D
BTW are you leaking boost somewhere?

That will work assuming the cam and the crank are correctly in time and the balance and pointer are also correct. Careful ASSuming too much though.
