New Parts for Old Trucks
I finally uploaded my pics to my computer and figured I would whip up a quick write up .
First I would like to say a big thanks to Mike @ RPM , he hooked me up with these qa1's and hypercoil shocks . He also machined down the spring cups so the coils would fit the shocks .The shocks didnt come with a pn on them but I do know the coils are 2.25 od 600lb'ers. Now to the fun part ..
Assemble the shocks and get that truck off the ground onto some stands , or the lift if you are ballin .
Remove the torsion bar adjusting bolts and nuts that secure the crossmember to the frame underneith the cab/bed .After you take the wheels off next, remove the cotter pin and nut holding the upper control arm to the spindle on either d-side or pass-side .Directions are the same for both. When removing the nut , place the jack under the lower control arm , because its going to want to drop . Slowly drop the jack until the lower arm is down enough to slide the bars forward until the torsion key drops on the floor, then take them and the crossmember out .Trash is a good home for it all, your never going to need that stuff again .
Next , lift the upper control arm out of the way so you can get a good look at things .
The liner you see in the pic is so metal dust doesnt get in the engine bay , your about to do some grinding . Its not much , and may not be necessary , but i did it to be certain there wouldnt be any complications .You can see how little I took off here .
After that , your shock should fit right in . Dont forget to splash some paint onto the fresh grinds .Stacked 1/2 inch washers fit perfectly for spacing the shock and one day I plan on replacing them with exact fit spacers . The entire install I give a difficulty level of "beginner" , but syty frames arent all 100% identical so some more or less grinding may be required . Heres what you are shooting for .
Then adjust the coilovers until you have a nice driving stance and enjoy .
Hopefully this can be helpful to someone .
