I hear ya, i was working on the ty, forgot i left the windows down, came inside to eat and it downpored in my truck for bout 8 min. before i remembered the windows were down. and my ecm was on the floor and laptop on the seat :( :( :(

i'mm gonna check the resistance on the IAC tomorrow. If its off, i'll just buy an IAC. I've covered all the other options, and done everything but change th IAC. So its come down to it. I'll post again tomorrow morning, on whether the new IAC fixed it or not.

My experience (not thats' great) everytime battery power is lost (disconnected) the ecm has to relearn to an extent.When I had an high idle problem-the ecm was on the brink and ran in limp mode for a while until I replaced the ecm. After installing the new ecm my idle still remained high or would search. I thought the problem was something else (did replace0 the IAC before the new ecm),but really after about a week or two (without doing anything else) the idle went down to about 850 or so.Don't know if electrical gremlins or not. When i disconnect the battery to do some electrical work and reconnect -I do get a high idle 1600-1800 until after driving a few minutes with a few complete stop and go situation and the rpm drops to 850. Don't know if this helps anyone with a high idle problem.Hope you solve your problem.

funny you say this. cause usually i drive for a couple minutes, then reload the BIN cause i modify it. Now 1 time i drove the truck 4 times without reloading the BIN, and the idle did drop when i went to shut the truck off the last time. I thought nothing of it, cause after i reloaded the BIN, and started the truck, the idle went high again.

i'll try not reloading the BIN for awhile. see if the ECM finds the idle itself.

In my experience the high idle only happens after a battery disconnect or ECM fuse pull... then the high idle will last for two or three minutes.

i took the truck out for awhile this morning, and the high idle subsided.

trouble is, now i cant datalog. pretty much my dead ALDL condition from before.

the remidy to this condition was to reload the BIN. which will most likely put the idle back up high.

uggh.

wonder if i have a faulty Ostrich

while i got yinz guys attention.

a couple questions about the Ostrich (if anyone else is running it).

the switches on the side are "24" "28" & "32" these are for which type of connection your ECM is. Is our ECM at 28 pin connection?

also, a spacer came with the Ostrich 2.0. Moates says its a protector to protect the pins. I used it as a spacer to lift my emulation cable towards the ECM cover... should it be used as a spacer?

It's not a bad idea, since a chip burned from your bin would tell you whether or not the ostrich is the culprit.

You can use it as whatever you like... it's just to protect the pins on the cable connector from getting bent. I usually stack 3-4 sockets on mine.

Standard device size is 28 pin. There are some situations where 32 would gut used, but what you're doing isn't one of them.

I think i have mine set of 24. I can upload a BIN, do the "BIN verify" and make sure it loaded. But after about 2 or 3 drives, i lose contact with the ALDL. I'll switch mine to 28, and hopefully it will work properly.

but yea, i used the stacker, and ontop of my emulation cable i have a slice of styrofoam, and the ECM cover sandwiches the cable in place. havent had it come loose yet. ECM is mounted in factory location, and my Ostrich is in the glovebox. :tup:

well, it just dropped a cylinder. was out for a drive. not in boost, the truck didnt knock at all. no error codes, or ALDL flags.

plugs wires are on tight, no leaks anywhere, it just misses a ton.

thought the ECM might be in limp. so i reset the battery, pulled the ecmb fuse, and reloaded the BIN, and nothing.

limping it back home, AFRs were in the 16.3 range. normally 14.6-14.7. which makes me think a clogged injector.

but just for good measure i'm gonna pull plugs, and run some injector cleaner through the system.


BTW, my original problem still exist. -Load BIN and ALDL works. drive a couple times, and it loses the ALDL, until you upload the BIN again, then it works again. I'm gonna do some ECM testing with spare a chip.

That's exactly how mine acted when I lost my #4 plug wire... might be worth taking a multimeter and checking for an open on a wire....
