Here it all is (Datamaster and video)

I have datamaster files for some one to please tell me whats going on. I saw a knock count of like 1560. But spark retard was only like .7
Oh and its 90 deg today. Im thinking that might have some thing to do with it?
Can some one explain to me what everything means? Pretend like im stupid
I can send you the file just ask.

I have also attached a link. It’s a video of noise coming from the engine bay. Any one ever heard it before? It goes away after the truck is real warm. Its always there when you start it.

Truckless. For now.
Re: Here it all is (Datamaster and video)

That sounds like my truck did when the PS pump went out. The pulley/shaft moved in and out about 1/8" to 1/4" and made that same sound. You might try removing the serpentine belt and checking your PS pulley for any play in it. Then, start the truck without the belt and see if it still makes the same sound. If that's what it is, it's a PITA to switch out... dumb alternator bracket

That might be giving you the crazy knock count too :dunno:

I'm sure others will chime in with more/better suggestions.

Belt tensioner or wheel under AC-comp.

Does AC work? (low refrig.fill in AC comp could make these noise)

ticking noise are injectors

Re: Here it all is (Datamaster and video)

Yeah I know how the injectors sound. This is for sure a differnt noise. Yeah I dont think the AC works. What explains it going away when its real hot?

Sound like the rockers are dry, take the valvecovers off and start it up..

Buy a stethoscope or use a solid rod, hold it to your ear and touch the part you think is making noise, you will hear where its coming from. getto tuning..

PS pump or belt tensioner. Could also be AC compressor bearing, but less likely.
That's likely what's freaking your knock sensor out.

If you have knock counts without KR, you've either got a bad memcal or a Kenne Bell chip.

Send me the DM file... turbodig <at> yahoo.com

I have the same noise. Haven't done serious looking yet. Does it make the noise when you start it hot? Mine doesn't.

Mine actually started when I changed to Royal Purple. Wishful thinking but it might be going away. Quite sure it's a hyd lifter acting up but haven't pulled the rocker covers to check.

Well I figured out that the sound is coming from the oil pan area, its down low...... Not good

so did you check the power steering pump/pulley? That sound seems to come from down low. It's super easy to check too. Just pull your serpentine belt off and start your truck. If the sound goes away, check your pulleys for play (movment in and out). If the sound is still there, then you know you've got bigger, more expensive problems.

You're video sounds just like my truck did. Had it fixed with a new power steering pump in a couple of hours.

I have not investigated any further. I will keep you posted.

i hate to say it, but that sounded just like the 305 in my Blazer. it was a spun rod bearing. didn't do it till it was hot also.

Do you mean it makes noise when its hot or cold. Mine goes away when its hot.

Re: Here it all is (Datamaster and video)

One thing I can confirm is that the noise goes away when I give it some rpms. Would a bad rod bearing act like that?

A rod bearing usually won't act like that.... pull the belt and see if it goes away. Really kinda' sounds like a rocker to me.

Re: Here it all is (Datamaster and video)

i hope for your sake its not a rod. my motor was quiet until it got hot. like all the others have said, pull the belt. also check the rockers, and even the flexplate.
