Got a strange phone call tonight.

Well,
I got a call tonight from the previous owner of my Syclone telling me that the original owner had talked to him and was upset that he had sold the truck without letting him know. He then wanted to know if I would be intrested in selling the truck. He gave me the number of the original owner and he is now coming down on Saturday evening to look at the truck. I'm on the fence about selling the truck, as I just don't know if I'm ready to sell it and what I will buy to replace it. After talking to the original owner, I feel that he has a right to own the truck again and I would like to see the truck go back to the person that drove it off the showroom floor and has such a connection to the truck. I guess I will wait until Saturday and worry about what happens then...

The original owner only has first bid when you are ready to get rid of your truck.
Don't let him try to force you into anything.

I had the same connection to a 92 GTA I owned..I found it again after like 15 years on ebay. I REALLY wanted it but it was already sold to someone else. All I could do was have the seller pass my info to the buyer and hope he takes care of it and sells it to me in the future...unfortunately like most fbodies it will probably get neglected and not be worth nothing when he is done with it..already come to terms with it.

It's your truck now though, just let him know when you are ready to sell he has first crack at it.

Money talks, bullshit walks. Say I own a car, then I sell it. I sell that car with no encumbrances... the next guy owes me jack shit. I can ask the guy "Hey, if you ever think about selling it, it'd be cool if you'd let me know. Maybe I'll be in a better spot/wealthy/nostalgic/stupid at that time." He can say "sure", or he can say, "just sign the fkking title, and I'm on the road."

Regardless, the only things the original owner owns is dreams and memories. I've had cars I've sold because the needs changed or I grew out of it. Would I want to own them again? Maybe. Would I expect to pay out of the nose for that "privilege"? Yes. We're talking Syclones and Typhoons here... not Dusenbergs.

Want to see someone in a position to own his old car? "Papa" John Schnatter.

Unless the dude offers you money that makes up for your "loss" and "time". Tell the dude to pound sand.

Re: Got a strange phone call tonight.

Start looking for a truck and sell this one for whatever the other one costs.

Re: Got a strange phone call tonight.

I had two previous owners of my 1967 RS Camaro tell me they wanted it back if I ever sold it.

I offered it to them before I sold it on Craigslist ... both said NO , its all timing I guess LOL ---

Everything has a price. If you can get what you want for it, or profit, sell it and get another.

Re: Got a strange phone call tonight.

You don't owe him anything. Whatever you think you would sell it for, ask atleast 5k more if he wants it that bad. Its not like someone tracked down a truck they once owned that they lost to like theft or anything.

^^ Exactly! If they really want it, they'll pay for it.

The guy is an OG sytyer and you want the OP to make him pay extra? Can't do a fellow sytyer like that! Sytyers don't rip off other sytyers! WOOT! WOOT!

My guess is that the original owner won't be that serious about purchasing the truck. And if he is, he will probably low ball you.

Re: Got a strange phone call tonight.

Maybe he shouldn't have sold it in the first place. If you have no desire to sell it, then don't. If you like it keep it. If you are thinking of getting something else, then sell it. Just make sure you don't lose any money on it.

Maybe it's only worth it for you to sell if you packet a little money..If the original owner doesn't want to pay the extra..sounds like he don't want it bad enough

Re: Got a strange phone call tonight.

All good points and the truck won't be sold unless the money is right. The original owner told me the story of how he sold the truck for a woman, which was the biggest mistake. I will be surprised if he really wants truck back after all of these years. I think that he has memories of the truck when it was new and maybe just wants to re-live some memories of when he was younger. I've had a lot of cars and I have only bought one of them back and it was then I learned that some things are not how you remembered them. I guess we will see on Saturday just how he really feels about it. The more important question is what to buy to replace the Sy if it does go to a new home....
