LS1 TT typhoon build(fabrication 95% complete)

I recently bought a 92 typhoon from texas, ultra solid truck, and decided to yank the 4.3 and throw in a iron block LS1.It will retain the AWD,A/C,power steering as well as the rest of the creature comforts. The motor is a 402 built by one of our engine builders, the heads are E.T 245's,custom Speed Inc hydraulic roller cam, plus the rest of the typical engine upgrades
The turbo system will be built by me and will include a set of GT35R's with the tail stainless housings,as well as 2 precision air/water intercooler cores with hand fabbed end tanks.
The trans is a FLT 4L80E with the George Blake H.D. imput shaft and the ST/TY performance adaptor for T-case.I will be hanging a Ford 8.8 rear end with a hand fabbed 4 link set-up and disk brakes, the front brakes will be C5 disks and rotors.
I was able to pull the motor and get started on the LS install last week, the oil pan started life as a 07 Escalade pan but by the time I got finished clearencing it you would never know, the motor mount are staight forward pieces welded directly to the cross member.I will post more picks as the progress goes along, here are some from last week, the first is the truck as i recieved it,you guys may recognize it:):

Yeah, but this one was actually posted by the owner  ;)
not according to the other thread in the lounge:lol:the reason this truck was hossen was the fact that it really is so clean and absolutley rust free,Im sure that upsets alot of the community that i would dis-assemble a really nice truck but Ill get over it:rotf:bt keep your eyes out for the whole build in up coming GMHT ,they are documenting the entire build and doing a feature on the truck when it is done.....mabey then it will be considered "my" truck:tup:

Re: LS1 TT typhoon build

i feel in the back of my mind i should have gone this way with my build, or something similar. Dont get me wrong about v6's, i love the idea. just not as reliable+ easy to build for cheap

LS1 TT's aren't cheap to build, they are only cheaper by compariosn if you going to attempt to do an all out 4.3L V6 Bowtie Build

I tried to talk him into the the one off transfer case planetaries I'm doing to compliment the input shaft he got but he wouldn't bite. Maybe he'll change his mind later. That's gonna be a very clean build.

i work for one of the midwest's top LS1 shops so the cost will be pennies to do a LS compared for me to do a 4.3

This is gonna be an awesome build! This Ty is now owned and being built by a guy that has a 1100 horsepower turbo mustang as well. He knows all about boost.

Cant wait for the updates.

Re: LS1 TT typhoon build

more progress has been made the motor and trans are in the final position as well as all the accessories, including the a/c which was kept in the stock LS location, lower pass of engine.it was a challenge getting it to fit,i really didnt want nor could afford the space lost if i was to use a high mount unit.i had to take minimal amounts of the frame out, which will be boxed in.i had to use a trailblazer ss a/c compressor,it was the shortest and the thinest unit i could find.it still required me to make my own mounts for the unit itself and for the tensioner,im quit happy with how it turned out,and was considering having the brakets reproduced if any one would be interested.

the fabrication of the turbo system should be started next week,im just waiting for the turbos and intercoolers,to arrrive fron exile turbo,2 garret GT35R's and 2 garret 1000hp a/w cores,it appears that these headers will be the easiest that i have built and i expect them to be done by the end of next week

Check your current planetary good. I've got 4 torn down now waiting on planetaries and all but 1 had the pinions wiggling around in them where they'd failed. If anything replace it with a new stock style.
That was a shame having to cut the frame. There are a few on here that's done LS setups and I don't think they had to cut the frame. Rodger's was the cleanest. No cutting anywhere. I think Will actually cut his floor and raised it. Don't think I'm hammering it at all. I just hate to see you have to go through so much extra work to make it happen. Rodger should sell the kit as his fits like a glove.

I'm pretty sure a front locker is a BAD idea, and that a H3 oil pan would have fit with no mods.
:dunno:

Yeah I tried pointing that out in the thread he made on the subject, but apparently didn't believe what everyone elses outcome was.
