Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

I looked at a bunch of pictures of clearanced oil pans and decided to wing it. If it fits, then now there are sorta real measurements out there.

I am considering offering the cut/weld service for these swaps if there's any interest... also assuming mine actually fits :rotf:

Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

wow almost 8 grand for that?

That guy is in a pretty awkward spot in the project. it runs and drives and he as a lot of money tied into parts, but pretty much everything that makes it a typhoon is missing. its a NA motor and all the FWD stuff is not even in the truck. it also only sorta drives considering the tv cable is missing/broken/whatever. I always thought that would burn up a 700r4 pretty quick.

Hopefully it gets finished and not completely abandoned.

here's my experiments with oil pans tis is the first pan I did in 2002, I could not find a used pan, had to buy a new one! I cut and fit all pieces and shipped to street and performance for tig welding, they were the only ones who used a jig and would guarantee no warping. only held 4.5 qts. was put in a 1991 s10 4x4 short bed.

POS turbo time aluminum oil pan, came with -8an fittings(too small) had to cut corner off to clear diff. fittings would not clear diff, replaced with -10an. custom oil pick up would hit on oil pan( had a double roller timing chain that set oil pump out more in the front making it hit on the pan) pan leaked everywhere, had to put it on the mill and could not get it true. ( too much welding caused warping)

Id be interested in a oil pan and mounts if you want to fab some extras up when you do yours. Let me know!

Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

Well, I started mine finally :D I am transplanting a 5.3 w/73k miles...removed the front clip, motor and transmission.
Received the following parts:
-transfer case adapter
-RPM solid engine mounts
-Meldon oil pan
-Stedman headers
-Painless harness

Ordered the following parts:
-ABS Delete (HTP)
-Radiator (Summit -CRI-1-25271-X)
-Dorman Fans (RB620005)
-160 degree thermostat
-cable TB (looking for used or purchase one from Summit)

Is there anything else you guys can think of that I may have missed?

front and read shafts,

what transmission are you using? 80e? might need a shifter cable and bracket, shorten the shifter shaft on the transmission, stock rad actually works well, for throttle cable, Lokar makes one , but have heard that a stock s-10 one works also from a 2002 ish model.

Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

on my s10 i used a stock throttle cable from a v6 truck with a 5.3 truck manifold and tb. the hardest part was sourcing the correct cable bracket.

Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

well im finally back in the game and making some progress.

made some motor mounts, the motor ended up like an inch offset toward the pass side. whatever.
I chopped them down a lot (weight) before paint. ill snap some photos of them some day.

heres the two most expensive pieces so far. i went for the mag adapter. im a retard for saving weight.

heres my trans crossmember i threw together. uses stock mount holes.

Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

I made a little bit of progress lately, been pretty busy with other stuff.

fbody length accessories;

turbos came in. theyre pretty small

Heres about where im thinking about putting the driver side one

started the pass side, ended up messing some stuff up and need to order more material before i can progress, so i moved to driver side

driver side so far, it looks like its gonna clear the steering column ok so i wont need a two piece one like the s10

Stab it and steer it
Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

Down pipes should be fun. AC on one side steering shaft on the other. Looks like you have the skills though. Nice work.

Old Chinese proverb. Any work done to a SyTY takes twice as long and costs twice as much as planed.:rotf:
