Frustration

as a technician i get frustrated easy. here is my deal. so the typhoon i bought in aug/sep. has been sitting, not runnning for 4months. well during the ty's downtime, i bought my daily driver s-10 for $600, not intending to do anything to it, except pay registration.

well last week, i took it into my dads shop and in one day i replaced the following:
1.front pads - turned the rotors and packed the wheel bearings with new grease and installing new seals
2.rear shoes - turned the drums, and replaced the broken springs
3.rear wheel cylinders - blew apart
4.front and rear shocks - no pressure in the old ones
5.oil and filter - after 5Kmi, i finally chaged it
6.air filter - why? i don't know
7.tires and wheels - got some free 15x8s from my dad, so i bought 4 tires to put on them
8.heater core - given
9.alignment - gonna need to get a new idler arm, cuz its bad.

this was well over $600, more than what i paid for the truck. what frustrates me is why don't i have the same motivation to fix my typhoon. ahh! just needed to vent, but hopefully the ty will be fixed soon.

I use this kind of stuff as an interlude... after 3 straight weeks I get kinda sick of working on it and want something quick to do... like a brake job or whatever... but I always get back to the Ty... it's going on three years now :(

Re: Frustration

What broke? Have you torn it down? Normally, the only motivation I need is all the necessary parts to get the job done....But when I'm really burned out on working on these things, a good ride in someone else's syty usually does the trick...It's always nice to have some help....While it's good to have company, make sure this person can wrench while he talks or you'll never get done  ......Beer can be a good motivator as well....Actual results may vary....Maybe you can find a helper that'll work for beer and kill two birds with one stone.....Or you could just attend the upcoming syty nationals....If that doesn't motivate you, nothing will... :D

i'm replacing the stock cylinder heads with the ported/polished vortec head/intake pkg. from RPM. i'm going to have it towed to my dads shop, that way i have access to air/power tools and all the special tools i need to get the job done. got alot of stuff happening this year in the next couple of months, so we'll see when i actually will have time to get things going. going to romania for my church's college age mission trip in the middle of april for 12 days.

Maybe some of my new pictures coming to you this week will help motivate you. I know your interest in my project has helped keep me motivated. Seeing someone elses success sometimes gets the desire back. Hang in there dude we all go through it.

Re: Frustration

I did the same thing... I bought my SY Fall '05 in pieces and over the winter months planned to put it back together for spring. Well, it sat for almost 2 full months. Lately I have been dedicating an hour or so a day and i am noticing progress. I drive the teal GT to work once a week and that is where I have gotten my inspiration. I just gotta know what it feels like to drive a SY of my own. Been nothing but GT's since '92 cause I could never afford a SY but look out this year. I have a goal to put plates on it by March... my B-day is late in March and I WILL be driving it at any cost.

Re: Frustration

Sell the daily driver and you will be forced to work on the truck. You work on the $600 truck because you HAVE to.

the heads broke?? you need to get motivated man....Just having a modded 11k white typhoon in my posession would motivate the hell out of me to knock it out....You could do heads in two weekends.....Sounds like you're set on spending some cash fixing this when you get around to it....April is a long time from now dude...

Re: Frustration

yeah i know. the heads didn't really break. i pulled #4 exhaust rocker stud about a 1/4 out of the head running 29psi of boost. dumb mistake by me, but if you can't go big, why buy these things. i will have it towed to my pops shop in a week or two. the thing is, i don't want my ty to get in the way of my dad making money while the shop is open. i got a couple of days that i can take off, paid, so when i do work on it i will knock it out in 3-4 days or a week. i have most of everything torn down just need to remove the head studs from the block so i can pull the heads off.

i want to do solid motor mounts too, should i just pull the motor?

these are the things that will be done to it
1. vortec head/intake pkg.
2. zq8 steering box
3. volvo e-fan
4. abs delete
5. hks ssqv blow off valve
6. gilbert propshaft - need to order
7. razor alky?

things i did while tearing stuff down
1. removed kb cold air intake - will sell if anyone is interested
2. installed mesh screen on turbo inlet
3. removed stock clutch fan

things i might do based on your guys input
1. a/c delete - have a daily driver with a/c
2. a/c delete heater box
3. corvette front brakes
3. f-body rear brakes

thanks for listening to me, since i have the daily driver s-10 i probably will only drive the ty to cruise around in and go to the track. i appreciate your guys input.

Re: Frustration

Yea Quickstorm you will want to pull the motor if your installing solid mounts. The easiest way to do them i think. ( i did try to do it without and just more pain then good.

Hell yeah!!! bring me back some dracula stuff!!! take the tour of dracula's castle in Wallachia if you get some free time. The real dracula (not the character from the book) was a bad ass definitely some crazy history behind that guy! i have a book on his history and theres a story about him and his men killing over 20000 turks in the night and impaling them on wooden stakes in the middle of a forrest near the turkish border... and then...

wait... this might not be something you'd wanna do with a church group... well have fun out there!

btw... you know the answer to your problem? haha you shoulda kept the black ty you bought down here with 38k on it or whatever hehehe... ok im no help... ummm if ya wanna get motivated, go to the multimedia section and download some vid's of syty's tearin it up! that always works for me.

thanks, did you remove the front clip off of the truck so you could remove the engine with more ease and without tearing up the front of the truck? this would make removing the heads alot easier for me.

Re: Frustration

I wuz there when he pulled the stud. Didn't sound pretty. Brandon, you got alot of work lined up there I wish I wuz closer so I could help but then who'd work on my truck? :D Gotta get the alky installed (see below) and set up then I can drive it. Trying to work on it at night is a pain so I might actually take some time off to finish it. Got a bad case of Sy withdrawal. Wed night drags start Mar 1st. Hope to see you back up here Brandon!

On Feb. 11th I'm invited to be the little guy in a gathering of big trucks (18 wheeler types) that my cuz is putting on so I'll be hitting the alky install really hard after that.
