Flexplate bolt question

Ordered some new Moroso flexplate bolts to go with my new SFI B&M flexplate. Everything's ok with them, except they came with a washer similar to the ones used on grounds(not much bigger than the bolt head, and all around the outer edges they're cut and turned at an angle like to cut through paint, etc. for a ground) and the stock ones didn't have any washers. Should I use the ones from Moroso with or without the washers?

Use the washers that came with the bolts, they are a type of lock washer that was used on older gm engines... I also add a few drops of locktite blue the bolt threads, to help keep the bolts where they belong.

Yes, look for Loctite with the trade designation "242 removable threadlocker". HTH's

Jeremy,

Is this B & M plate thicker and stronger ? How much ?

Also I wonder if it passews NHRA ?

I don't think it is thicker, but it has more welds to hold the ring gear on and it's SFI approved.

Rick,

Our stock plate seems awfully "flexy" and flimsy. One of my
GN buddies got an aftermarket flexplate which is ~ 1/8" thick
in the center plate - clearly thicker than stock. Seemed like a
good idea w all the torque some of us will (some day) put out.
I may have to track this down for the Typhoon.

And Lynn, here are some details:
Chevy (SFI 29.1 Approved)
GM flexplates have dual bolt pattern to accomodate Powerglide, TH-350, 400 & 700-R4
Key Features
SFI 29.1 approved, NHRA/IHRA legal for all classes (Chevrolet & Chrysler).
SFI certification sticker included (recertification required every 3 yrs.).
Ideal for street applications to extreme duty racing and high (above 6,000) rpm use.

It might be thicker, I just never really paid attention to it.

Yes, the sfi flex plate is thicker... but it is what you need if you have a little more than stock torque output. I would also use the grade 8 torque converter bolts with the locktite 242 blue threadlocker... And this is the NHRA accpted method of coupling the trans to the engine...... Especially if running 10.99 or quicker in the quarter... I have several NHRA rulebooks laying around here if anyone needs a quote....

Just wait for the ARP bolts or else you'll end up pulling the Transmission 5 times like I did.

Must been operator error :) I been driving my Sy for almost 4 years with 1 year after rebuild without any problems. Are you saying they are coming loose or did they break for you?
