Re: first datamaster scan
I have the truck running and all back together with the new engine, I took it for a little drive up to the parts store to get new bulbs. I am going to make an aldl cable tomorrow so I can run some scans on datamaster. I have never done it before so I am not sure what to do. I can figure out the interface, I have seen how to's on that, but what should I do with the truck to get useful info. Just drive down the road or something else I should do. Forgive my noobness, I am just trying to be very cautious so I dont blow this engine up.
Oh and its an all stock truck besides a cone filter.
Is the engine still using stock components, or did you change things (bigger injectors, different turbo, different cam, etc.)?
Are you running the stock chip, or an aftermarket?
If you have changed components you will want to go very easy on it till you get DM hooked up and get some logs.
With the key on, push your throttle all the way to the floor and see if you get 100% TPS. If so, I would start it and let it idle for 30 seconds in park or neutral, then for another 30 in gear. Then, go for a drive without getting into boost... just cruise around and see how it feels. Take it out where you can cruise for a few minutes at 55, 60, 65mph. Come back and repeat the idle routine. Take that log back and sit down and review it for lean spots, coolant temps, voltage levels. If it feels good, and the log looks good, you can push it just a bit further and get into a bit of boost. Review that log for similar issues.... just keep adding a bit more throttle each time making sure to check that all your parameters are looking OK.
