Finally Bought A Typhoon! WOOOT!

Re: Finally Bought A Typhoon! WOOOT!

So we have fresh oil in the truck and added some fresh gas.

Took it out for a spin and drove around for awhile. It was running GREAT! Smooth idle, nice crisp shifts, etc etc We decided to do a little launch and it didnt seem to have quite as much pep as we want but still very respectable.

I pulled back upto my shop and there was smoke coming from the hood! I quickly popped it to see that there was coolant EVERYWHERE!!

It turns out that the alternator fan ripped through the radiator hose. (see blue rag in picture) So we took the new hose from the wrecked Ty. Installed it and made sure it had plenty of clearance and the hose would NOT hit again. We drove for awhile and then launched it once and same thing.

So Im guessing the motor mounts are bad and the whole motor is torquing and therefore cutting into the hose. So we did a splice job with a piece of pipe and the rad hose is good as long as there is no launch. lol

Re: Finally Bought A Typhoon! WOOOT!

e fixed the alarm by adding a siren from the wrecked truck and taking the alarm out of valet mode. Now the alarm works and the remote keyless entry works great as well.

Next issue we came acorss was that the truck's idle went way high. it ran great earlier but now the idle is crazy high. It was idling at 2,000rpm to 2,500rpm! not good! We checked all the vaccum hoses and lines and found a couple that needed replacing and swapped them out with the mint ones from the wrecked Ty.

After having no luck solving anything, I decided to read the trouble codes. It was throwing code 22 and code 35.

---------------------------------
CODE 22
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) CIRCUIT
(SIGNAL VOLTAGE LOW)
----------------------------------
CODE 35
IDLE SPEED ERROR
----------------------------------

So tomorrow I get to figure out this stuff. I guess its time to grab a multimeter and pull the TPS from the wrecked truck. Also need to find a new rad hose and new motor mounts.

Will normal S10 4.3 mounts and hose work? Or are they SyTy specific?

****in aye!

Code 35 Idle Speed Error Code 22 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Circuit (Signal Voltage Low)

IMO you need to reset the codes, check for vac leaks, reset the IAC,make sure it has the correct plugs in it,chain the engine down, make sure the timing is set correct, adjust the TV cable, replace the fuel filter, change the trans filter and fluid, make sure the IC pump is working, disable the load leveler, get a real boost gauge.

I will think of more. BTW you can get a new TPS from the stealer for cheap if you need a new one.

Gotta love spraying coolant everywhere... really sucks when you do that on fresh paint  ... not that I would know.
You going to do solids or keep the factory style and swap them from the wrecked Ty ?

check your motormounts if your hose was cut

You can check your motor mounts by brake torque the motor with the hood up. You will be able to see through the crack the motor jumping up if they are broken.

If if you spent many hours detailing the engine and engine bay while you had the motor out...

First off. Thanks so much for your help everyone. I know alot of production data about the SyTy but I have never owned one so I never paid attention to the technical data about how to work on them.

- you need to reset the codes,

Just remove the ECM fuse for 30 seconds or more?

- check for vac leaks,

Did this and replaces lines for about 1 hour last night. It all looks good.

- reset the IAC,

Here comes my ignorance. What is an IAC?
And check the service manual on that one?

- make sure it has the correct plugs in it,

Yeah i plan to buy new spark plugs. Go with factory or is there a better one?

- chain the engine down,

You mean new motor mounts?

- make sure the timing is set correct,

the timing seems to be off according to my buddy.

- adjust the TV cable,

Yeah the TV works fine...I just watched a movie last night... hehe

- replace the fuel filter,

Good idea, need to find it.

- change the trans filter and fluid,

Man the fluid looks brand new in there and the engine oil. The guy was serious when he said it has a brand new engine in it!

- make sure the IC pump is working,

Check the manual again?

- disable the load leveler,

When checking the codes last night all of a sudden a motor kicked on and the back of the truck seemed to raise. lol

how do i disable it?

- get a real boost gauge.

I plan to. Single pillar pod.

BTW you can get a new TPS from the stealer for cheap if you need a new one

I hope to use the one from the wrecked Ty.
whats the stealer? the dealer?

Re: Finally Bought A Typhoon! WOOOT!

resetting codes is just pulling the fuses, yep.

IAC motor is on the underside of the throttle body, you reset it by jumping two ALDL terminals ( check the manual I forget which )

Fuel filter is inside frame rail under drivers door

As for the IC pump... not actually sure where it is because mine was missing but you should be able to see fluid moving inside the upper cooler if it's running

Too bad I dont have Internet at the shop where the trucks are.

Im gonna need to print this all and then take it with me. Thank the Lord he had the service manuals in the truck!

Mine are well thumbed.... very very useful stuff. They never leave the back of the truck

This is true... I have a weathertech cargo liner, a tool box and a fire extinguisher in the back, they stay put pretty well. But, once I start driving a lot they will come out

Yeah the stealer is the dealer. I'll just post a bunch of links for your questions.I saw you already found the Idle Air Controller thread.

Re: Finally Bought A Typhoon! WOOOT!

So I went to mess with the truck yesterday. Reset the ECM and IAC. Replaced the TPS and MAP from the wrecked Ty. Double checked on vaccum lines and everything seems happy.

Started it up again and it took a few seconds of sputtering until it sounded like it was running fine and then the the idle shot up to 2000 - 2500 again! arrgghhh... Checked the codes again and it said ode 33 - MAP sensor. but no longer says 22 and 35.

I also notice my boost gauge is pegged out top end. It is pegged with the truck on or off. WTF is that? Im SURE its not making that much boost with the truck parked on turned off. haha Any ideas?

So Im reading the service manual to figure out my next steps and everything says "check scan tool" or "use the scan tool" or "after you read the scan tool" Dammit!! What do I need to work on the truck? Do I need a scan tool or can I use my laptop?

I now understand the frustration you guys all have with these. lol

The worst part is... It ran GREAT Thurs night. Great idle, no noises, smooth power, etc etc It was GREAT! Then within an hour the idle was way up. So high Im afraid to put it in gear because it would be like doing a neutral drop.
