Factory airbox

Instead of relocating battery and installing cone filter, has anyone ever tried to drop in K&N and drill holes in inlet side of airbox? Worked in my '90 16v gli.

I think the issue is the restricted plastic pipe that also gets heated by the radiator fan shroud, that runs to the turbo from the air box. Just putting in a K&N helps...

Exactly right!
but i noticed a big difference when i relocated the battery and did the k&n cone filter in its place..its a bitch to relocate the battery, but in my opinion, worth it.

Opening up the intake slot in the front of the stock airbox used to be a popular mod. Dig is going pretty darn fast with the stock crossover and airbox, with the front cover opened up.
