some measurements would be good, basically verify what I had guessed.

wasnt trying to rag on ya, just see alot guys just want to use syty.net to just sell trucks and not contribute.

this would be a great help considering all the speculation.

Is it confirmed that ALL 92s were stock half way across the tailgate? Maybe PAS fired the drunk ass who thought that placement was good half way through production?

Some of us have been around SyTy for 15+ years or more, attended Nats KC in 98-99 when there were ~100 trucks attending, (many of which when only 6-7 years old still had their born-with paint and decals in the PAS-placed position) and have an incredible penchant for remembering trivial detail. One of my quirks that well-suites me to being an NCRS Judge. While I can't say I've ever specifically checked known-original 92 placement with a production number, I CAN say I've never seen a 92 with 93-spacing that I felt was born-with placement.

YES! The "correct" 92 position is "half way across the tailgate". I've measured it, have it somewhere, or have seen it published, but can't find it now. The dimension to the "T" is about 4.5-5".

Interesting. For fun, I got out my OEM '92 Ty decal just to see where they would have gotten the alignment marks.

On the bottom of the decal, it has the text:

LOCATE TO FEATURE LINE
& LEFT EDGE OF TAILGATE

Drawing a straight line up from that mark the T is 1" in. I wonder if this is where the '93s are?

Take a look at that decal again. Look at the date on it. I can see month "3", but not the year. I'll bet the year is much later than the last Typhoon produced.

Alright. THIS is where the confusion comes from. The 93 position changed to the 1" spacing. The Avery backing was changed to reflect this spacing, and I believe even the grey 92 replacement Avery 92 "OEM" decals were printed on the 93-spacing backing.

I looked at the NOS grey 92 decal I have in my stash, purchased from GM in 2001. There's a date on it. "1997". I'll be damned. That is NOT a decal on a backing that could have been used in 1991 when my 92's were built. So My guess that the backing was changed for both colors to the 93 spacing is a damn good guess.

I believe THIS is how all the 92's with 93 spacing have come to be. Over the years, the replacement decals with 93 spacing have been applied without anyone being the wiser, or giving a shit even if they do know it's wrong. The decal on my red/gry is in the 93 position. I knew it was wrong, didn't have the measurements handy, and didn't really give a shit, so I used the backing spacing and put them on "in the wrong place".

92 = "half way across the tailgate"
93 = 1" to the "T"

I bought this somewhere around '01 as well.

I have a '92 dealer brochure, I'll have to look at that when I get home.

Re: exact location of rear decals? 92 ty?

Thanks NorthernTY

Im getting 5 1/8 inches from the left of gate to the T?
and 4 inches from the bottom of gate to bottom of T?

Gnocide can you give us the measurements off the OEM stickers..those look spot on for a 92!

Re: exact location of rear decals? 92 ty?

The more I look at the TYPHOON tailgate alignment on yours Gnocide the more it looks like a 93 placement? but the GMC truck looks about right?

but then again, I notice the decal says "feature line" for bottom alignment..which I assume is the edge of the bend in the tail gate and not the actual bottom of the tailgate

After using four different low milage original tys and mapping them all out I ended up applying them.

Those decals were made in 1997. Look at the dates on the backing. So those backings are the 1993 spacing. You guys keep missing this>>> REPLACEMENT grey 1992 decals are on backing with 1993 spacing.

A decal with a 1997 date is not 'an original sticker". It's a Service Replacement. Service Replacement parts often have differences from production line parts. Especially when they were produced 5 years after the 92's they are intended for ceased production. In this case the spacing.

It seems the side spacing for the "Typhoon" is the same as door cladding. 5". Put the bottom left corner of the paper on the edge of the tailgate. The T will be 5" inboard from the edge.

Re: exact location of rear decals? 92 ty?

Maybe thats how they did in 92 using door stickers on the tail gate and not having a reference like the new ones for a tail gate alignment?

using the edge of tailgate as the same reference as the edge of the door and contour line as the bottom spacing would make sense as to the same 5 inches.

I put my "Typhoon" decal at 5 inches for the edge of the T and the bottom of the T at 4 inches to bpttom of tailgate.

What's the final verdict on the 1992 "GMC Truck" decal placement?

Re: exact location of rear decals? 92 ty?

Dave P has the actual 92 measurements POSTED somewhere.
im not sure where hes been-but i would ask him.

i just know its different from 93 no matter what the original sticker says for the tailgate alignment
its in like 4 5/8 inches in from the side- not an inch like 93s
so is the gmc truck sticker
