Re: EGR block off plate project

Mike - I paypal'd you $40. Id like to get one of the over sized ones so I can try buffing the intake and sanding the EGR later. If its extra for the oversized, let me know.

In the pic, how'd you get it to have such a one piece intake look, like there isnt even a EGR plate there? Also, did you use liquid gasket? I have some of the paper type universal gasket layin around here somewhere.

It won't be anything extra to make it oversized. All I have to do is change one number in the "X Y stock to leave" and it's good to cut...

It's very easy to do. First off you have to start with two surfaces that are PERFECTLY flat. The sealing surfaces on the intake have been face milled so that are pretty flat from the get go. After mounting everything up, you block sand the plate down till it's flush with the rest of the intake. This is how we modify and repair molds where I work. When it is done right, you can't even tell it was done. The repair gets "blended" into the rest of the part.

My plate that I made for myself is actually thinner than the ones that I am selling. I was feeling a little wacky so I made mine .262" thick to match the CID of the 4.3. The ones that I am selling are .375" (3/8 of an inch) thick. I didn't use any gasket on mine either or else that would have ruined the effect. I could have gotten away with not using a gasket on my plate as well but, I wanted to keep the heat out of my intake so I did this:

"3/8 X 18 NPT brass plug to be staked in place to prevent exhaust gas from ever entering upper intake."

I prepped the stock (decked to thickness, drilled and counter sunk the mounting holes), got it mounted on the spoil plate and indicated it in before I ran out of time yesterday. All have have to do is put in the tool offsets and run the program. Hope to knock it out sometime today...

jshu77 I received your payment last night. Your plate will ship this morning, 5/8 THANKS!

Mike... Paypal sent.

Do i need to specify rounded/cut edge? My upper intake and intercooler are polished so this should blend in nice.

. To date every plate that I have shipped out has had the sharp edge. And I have bead blasted one to at a customers request. If you desire a rounded edge, I will have to cut that on the mill since all the ones that I have on hand are the sharp edge ones. I also have an oversized plate on hand (someone asked for one and then I never heard back from them) that will need to be sanded around the perimeter to match the intake. The result with this plate would make the plate look "seamless" like mine. I would only take a few hours to do. LMK.

Re: EGR block off plate project

Welp from the looks of your pics, whoever buffed the intake rolled the edges around where the EGR mounts. Which isn't a surprise since sharp corners and details disappear pretty quick when you're in a hurry to get things done... "Time is money" they always say and shops shoot for quick turnaround times. You could sand the plate to match the intake but, it would take some elbow grease. So, it's official that you want a plate with the sharp edge? Your other post in the glove compartment thread six minutes ago said the you wanted a rounded edge...

Re: EGR block off plate project

How about you send me whatever you think will look the best and match up. :)

I doubt you have pictures of the rounded vrs straight do ya?

After you mentioned that it takes a few hours to round the edges/make new ones, I say send me what ya got laying around. (straight)

I think you should go the extra mile and sand that face flat, you need some quality time under the hood of the new beast!. take the upper out of the truck, port and polish, plug the EGR port. and sand that flat.

Think of it this way, do it now and and you wont regret it later, nor will you have me poking fun at the next nats! ;) :rotf:
