Re: EGR block off plate project

Ok there will be a slight delay shipping out the plates that I cut the other day. I managed to walk out the door with the plates and grabbed the wrong hardware
icon_redface.gif
. The box that I did grab was for another project that I am working on... My boss said that he will be stopping by the plant after Christmas so that I can pick them up. Sorry for the delay fellas.

Your quick!! I figured that it would be until after the holidays. Well, maybe I can talk the GF into taking some digitals of the plate next to my truck for me to cry over for the next eight months......

Thanks again

I went into work early enough Friday so that I could get them all cut. Besides, just because you aren't in county isn't an excuse to take my sweet time

. My nephew is in the army and he is going to Afghanistan in January for a year :(. I have a lot of respect for you guys who are serving your country. Especially since you are in harms way everyday from people who wish to do you harm. Sometimes I think the people back here forget about that... I served in the armed forces myself, hope that everyone returns back home safe and sound

Re: EGR block off plate project

Call me silly.. but what is the benefit of a block of plate? I'm in a emission controlled area and will that work for me?

I just don't see the purpose.. educate me please!

This post here pretty much covers the bases of what it is, what it does and the reason for deleting it. The only time you have a "problem" is if you live in a place where you have to pass a visual inspection. Not having it will result in an automatic failure. Fortunately I have "collector vehicle" status in my state. Therefore, I am exempt from any emissions testing.

I want one, I want one!!!! Is it too late? If so just post when you'll do another batch.
Between your EGR blockoff, and Typhoon engine badging that Scott is making, I may have my engine compartment presentable this year.

This is not a group purchase. I cut the plates as I get payment and an opening in machine time. I managed to make a few extras after I cut the last set. Even if I didn't have any in inventory, you wouldn't have to wait more than a week for me to mail it out after payment...

Dumb questions...

Why use a block off?
Is the EGR not needed?
What mods does it take?
Where do you put the vacuum line to the EGR?

Thanks!

Why use a block off? block off to seal vacuum pressure
Is the EGR not needed? egr recirculates hot air back into engine (colder air = better)
What mods does it take? must be chipped to keep from throwing check engine code
Where do you put the vacuum line to the EGR? you get rid of T in vac line and the solenoid completely

EGR is part of emissions junk

The answers to some of your questions can be seen in the post above... If you are still running the stock chip, deleting it will flag a check engine light occasionally since it won't cycle when commanded due to being MIA. I have the Ultimate chip which disables the EGR to prevent this. Folks that delete the EGR have usually redone their vacuum lines and eliminated the unused lines to clean things up a bit. Most including myself, just tuck the electrical connector for it out of sight rather than cutting it off.

can you put me down for one? large enough to be buffed? LMK

Ok, so you want one that is oversized so that you can blend it in? If so, I can probably cut it sometime this week. I have several of the on size ones as well:

Re: EGR block off plate project

Mike,

$40 for US, would you take $45 for shipping to the UK? Do you need a gasket with this?

Thanks,

Mark

Sorry for the late reply. Quick question - If I were to buff the intake, could i buff the standard size and get away with it since the intake will be losing size? or should i just go with the oversized?

My terms are $40 shipped, I will cover the additional shipping costs to help out an owner "across the pond"
icon_wink.gif
. Besides after you pay for customs, you would probably have the most expensive block off plate out there

.

I fabricated my plates so that NO gasket is required. Most of the cheap plates that are out there are made out of extruded aluminum which is NOT flat. To get it flat, it MUST be machined. The side that you see isn't important but the side that bolts up to the intake had better be dead nuts flat or it WILL leak. My plates are made one at a time and I don't use "cheap" aluminum. The material that I use is the exact same material that we use at work to make molds for BIG companies.

I would just cut you one slightly oversized just to play it safe. You have to remember that the intake is a cast part so, some variation can't be helped. It is important t note that if I cut you one that is oversized, you will have to SAND it to make it match the intake like the the pic below:

You should be British! :D What a top bloke! Check your paypal mate - thanks very much!

So all I need to do is remove the old one? Does the TB need special cleaning afterwards?

Hurrah!

Right, your plate will ship out first thing Monday morning. I will throw in a little extra "bonus" to help keep you "representing" sytys overseas...

With regards to deleting the EGR valve itself, just be sure to plug the vacuum line going to it or else you will have a vacuum leak. Other than that, make sure that the surface on the upper intake is clean before you install it. If there is any build up carbon on there, wipe it off with a rag and some carb/choke cleaner. Don't do anything that will scratch up the mating surfaces and/or possibly get anything "bad" into your intake.

Thanks
