E85 people ENTER

Great #'s Keith! The torque is crazy for the build. Does E85 really make that much of a difference over pump/alky? I doubt I would have 700 or even 800tq if I ran 24psi with mild timing. Or is it just in the Tune?

Sean, i'm sure it's mostly tuning. Nolan has made some great hp #s on pump gas/alky. I think e85 may have some advantages like not relying on another system (alky). I think they both have their different advantages......

Being that this Tune was on a Engine dyno, how dramatic are the changes with it in the Truck with all the load? Or is it Turn-key now?

I can't speak for Keith, but mine was and is a work in progress. All the part throttle and full throttle stuff was done on their dyno, but Nolan still wanted me to log everything so we could be sure the tune was spot on. I started the truck, sent Nolan the log, drove around w no boost, sent him the logs, 6psi sent him the logs etc, etc. That was the way Nolan wanted me to do it, so he could fine tune as we went. I think the tune was close from the begining, but better safe than sorry.

Im gonna also guess it was TRUE e85?. Not a watered down blend? Cause then it would have more gas to help cars to run in the cold.

Re: E85 people ENTER

Nolan blended it at true 85% ethanol. A co-worker had an evo running E85 and the pump numbers were very close to the right ethanol content. He had a GM flex fuel sensor setup right in his car. Im only going to be driving in the spring summer and fall. The blend should be fairly good then.

I didn't like alky. I had a pump pressure valve go bad and pressure would not hold to the alky injector. The delivery would end up being late and the pump would play catch up. Alkycontrol did back their product and fixed it. I was always struggling to tune two different systems. I could not run a lot of timing before the alky kicked in. It really opened my eyes that this system was the life blood of my engine under high boost. If it failed then BOOM. I was not okay with that.
I also don't like the chance that I could have an invisible fire under my hood. Last thing is I noticed on hot days the alky reservoir would boil. I thought "you gotta be kidding me." Turns out isopropyl has a low boiling temperature. This thing is gone. Alky injection is also not legal in most states and is also frowned at buy autocross clubs.
I don't see any problems like that with E85. In MN everyone is tuning with that stuff. As soon as someone tells me they are running E85 with a professional tune you automatically know they are putting down way above average numbers. Stock Evo 9s with nothing but injectors and exhaust running low 11's high 10's. It didn't take me long to see what made power and what didn't. E85 is the real deal. Its affordable race gas at the pump (105 octane rating). How the heck do stock heads, with cam, roller rocker arms, and a good turbo make 600hp? Those are really the only power adders. Good fuel and a good tune is how.
I talked about an engine dyno and how good of a tool it is. How are you going to hold the truck at a certain RPM and boost on the road while driving to get the fuel just right. I understand there is logging but that is a lot of trial and error. Again its not hard to see what makes power (Nolan). How many times have we seen a video of a syty engine making 800 or 1000hp that Nolan tuned on this engine dyno. Hes also known for his E85 tunes.

Nolan also told me the tune was turn key. He said it only needs adjustments to idle possibly. That's is always based on the converter. I can tune the idle myself no problem. Im going to back off the boost for safety. You just never know if you could get a bad batch of gas. What the heck am I going to do with 870lbs of torque on the street anyways :)

Re: E85 people ENTER

yeah, e85 is the way to go.

I just finished the chevelle, and its full time e-85, prob wanting to do the typhoon as well, but I am focusing on getting teh MS3x running and maybe even the alky controller that is built it.

If all fails, then its getting a TT LS with e85/pump and a flex fuel sensor

If you are trying to make big power its a no brainer to switch to e85 in the long run. I got sick of spending $17.00 gallon on C16 when I could spend $2.50 on e85 instead. I was making roughly the same power on the dyno with both fuels. For me it made economic sense since I'm road racing the truck which uses considerably more fuel than drag racing.
