Re: DesertSy: It's Just a Driver

Dave, Your headliner and interior turned out really nice. How much do you have left before you can drive it ?
Thanks for the comments Lloyd, and again for the effort on the headliner.

I made this list the other night. I'll update the list here as I make progress. There's not much on the "Must Do". The "As time allows", and "Wish List" are still substantial, but they don't need to be finished before I can drive it.

Dave, it looks like you may have the same "interior door handle return spring" problem that I have. I am sure you have a fix, and I would be interested to know what the fix is.

Randy:

I found another solution.
$13.00 from Dorman. I have no idea what the quality is like, but for $13.00 hardly worth the effort to mess around with used.

Re: DesertSy: It's Just a Driver

Hey Dave, you are doing a fantastic job on this SY, not like you need to hear that from me. It's nice to see another member around here who isn't terrified of electrical work, you definitely know what you are doing and now I see why you were always trying to coach me back when I was doing mine. One thing I'd like to suggest if you care or if it matters in your quest, if you are looking to make the truck look mint, you can have the exhaust manifolds "baked" and they will look brand new. It is a freaky treatment and I swear by it but may not be desirable at this point since it is mainly all back together. Just a thought.

Bad ass work though, can't wait to see it done!

Re: DesertSy: It's Just a Driver

Drove it 15 miles to the alignment shop and back home. First time it's been out of my tract since I bought it 2 years ago, and got it running in January. It drives very nicely. couple of CEL codes 13 & 44, I think I can fix those no problem, TV may not be right, as the shift points are early and soft, and the new carpet is preventing WOT, so it seemed "slow" when I got on it for the first time. Those are the only bugs I've found so far. The old school Baer brakes are better than any of my other S-series brakes, and no leaks, rattles, or other gremlins popped up on the inaugural drive. So I'm pleased.

Putting gas in it for the first time earlier today:

Re: DesertSy: It's Just a Driver

I had it aligned today. I had the front suspension all apart for different tasks up there. I knew it had to be done, and with new tires, I wanted to do it straight away. I though I'd share the read-out with ya'll. People that are familiar with my alignment spec prefrences know I advocate 0º +.01 Camber for a street SyTy. I was in the seat when it was aligned to 0 and 0. The final print-out was with me on the ground. Yes, I was surprised it changes that much too. Enjoy:

Re: DesertSy: It's Just a Driver

Insalled this a few days ago. I works and look like a champ. No more loose door handle. Thanks, Dave.

I replaced both of mine with LMC truck replacements. Wanted to get rid of the chalky look and the drivers side was fuxord.

UPDATE, 10-11-2012: It's not "finished", but it's DONE! I just got back from the Room of Doom. With a new cat, stock PROM, and O2 sensor, it passed, even with an audible misfire at 2,500. I went straight to AAA and finished my registration, and now have tags. I'm calling it done, as I can now drive it legally. I'm pretty happy with the way DesertSy came out. There's some loose ends to finish, as there will always be something that needs to be taken care of, but for now, it's "done" and I'm considering the "build" over.

I want to thank everyone that read and participated with comments and suggestions in this thread. It was appreciated.
This is a big day. It's "done".
