Connector DAQ

Does anyone know the best tool and size to remove this connector? I am having tons of trouble because of my pathetic tool collection, and have already struck out on several guesstimate purchases.

Re: Connector DAQ

If you can't get the line fitting to come off the adapter, try just unscrewing the adapter from the turbo itself, then separate the fitting with vise grips on a work bench. That fitting is at a bad angle, and I see a lot of people round them off by having the wrench at a 30 deg angle on the fitting. Your's appears to be a victim of this.

Re: Connector DAQ

I used a metric flare nut wrench on it (line wrench). My Sy is pretty clean corrosion wise so mybe that made it easier.

!!!DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING W/ A TORCH!!!
Otherwise you will destroy that oil line.

This works very well for almost any rust ridden fastener especially exhaust bolts.

Put some heat into the fastener w/ a torch. You only need about 300 degrees for this to work NOT red hot. Once heated touch the fastener with a candle or bar of parafin wax until the wax flows into the threads. Let it sit for 10 seconds or so and then try to take it out again.

An old very wise man told me about this years ago and I called bullshit...

I was wrong. It has worked for me about 75% of the time.

I have heard of this but never tried it.
Perhaps I will try it out next time I am in a bind,, per say. :rotf:

For anyone who has tried to take stock exhaust bolts out of an old Big Block Ford, try this. It works on those and that was proof enough for me.

Just to confirm. For example an exhaust stud, you are heating it up and touching the candle to the stud (or it is the nut?) until the wax flows and then wait 10 secs.

Re: Connector DAQ

Doesn't matter as long as the wax flows into the threads between the two.

BTW, at 300 degrees, parafin is as thin and free flowing as Methanol. Hence, it really penetrates and once in the threads it also acts as a lubricant.

Re: Connector DAQ

I should have mentioned before that this method will not solve the prob of not having the correct tool. I mentioned it because I saw that oil line getting twisted in half through my crystal ball.

THE SMOKEWRENCH IS THE SIZZLE .

but probly isn't needed for the coolant pipe flare end . let it soak in some pb blaster for an hour that'll help

Re: Connector DAQ

Thanks every body, I really appreciate the advice; and about a gallon of WD-40 and a new metric flare-nut wrench later I finally got the line off. The torch and wax method will definitely be filed away for later. Thanks again!

WD40 sucks; hence using a gallon of it. It is the #1 penetrating oil of those who don't know any better.

This is the shit you want.
