Calling NY Area Sy owners - CLEAN STOCK FAST TRUCKS NEEDED

Well, this event is two days away and here's the latest from Jim @ Hemmings. NO CHIPS, PUMP GAS ONLY, NO Slicks or DR's. The want as stock a comparison as they can get. Time trial type passes, 3-4 per vehicle to get best time. Been getting the Sy prepped all week, I think she'll do well with the rules. Got a couple things up her sleeve, we'll see how well they work. Will keep everyone posted on the details, ie #'s and info on coverage etc. And thanks for the input so far, keep it up so I don't forget anything.

Also, not sure if anyone else planned on going out, but they are having a braket racing "King of the Hill" weekend, and the warmups are on friday. If there are folks planning on heading out, maybe we can do a little meet, racing etc.

Thanks man, I'll do my best to represent. Dameon (Stangbeater) is going with, and helping me trailer it out, so the NASTE crew will be rolling atleast two strong.... three if you count the truck.

If the truck gets a good driver, it should do just fine. Spool her up and let her buck. Should be very interesting. 12 what?????????? :eek: :eek:

Well, here's the update for everyone.

After a week of wrenching, truck seemed to be running just fine, until we had a fallout on the trailer, and we had to drive it out. Upon getting to the track, and the first time it's been driven since wrenching on it, we discovered a couple issues. The gasket on the turbo oil return line decided it didn't want to hold up under pressure anymore, so we had oil spewing out, and a overboost and fuel pressure issue. We were rushed into 3 passes back to back. We took some time to turn out the wastgate and up the FP. Basically, we didn't have enough time to tune and adjust. Also, the driver (me) couldn't 60' for his life that day.

In the three passes it ran a 13.6@ 98, 13.7@ 98.5, 13.6@101.8. We were headed in the right direction, but no time to get it just right.
The rest of the vehicles in attendance were:

Ford Lightning - 13.9
Dodge Ram SRT 10 - 13.4
Dodge Express Truck - 15.xx
SLP Trans Am - 13.0
'77 Trans Am - 15.xxx

That's the basic run down. They took some nice pictures, group and individual. The guys from Hemmings were great, all of this will be in Hemmings Muscle Machines January issue. Track was nice. Speciall thanks are in order to Dameon Barnhart aka Stangbeater, for helping with wrenching and making the trek with me, and busting a** trying to get the truck running better. Phillip Long aka Tubo6 for going above and beyond, to write, burn and overnight a chip, that we couldn't even use (Hemmings rules). That covers most of it. I'm sure I forgot stuff, but if there's anything else that would be of interest, I will add info.

but not every stock syclone will be as fast as toms..
Im just saying, its nice as hell to see a fellow owner featured in such a article.. its a shame it wasn't running perfect, probably because he had damon working on it with him :D

tom, were you allowed to use mark's "cold air intake" setup, like you did last year in pittsburgh? :drinking:

Eric, you suck.

It would have been worse, if I didn't work on toms truck. I drove that thing to a 13.3 last year compleatly stock weight. A bit more time at the trrack, and he will break 13 with a completly stock truck and stock chip and turbo. The 2.02 60' didn't help at all. Last year his truck was getting 1.8's.



Tom truck weighed in at 3700 lbs with him in it.

They wouldn't let me run anything that wasn't stock. We sneaked in 4 gallons of 100 octaane, which we had to pull over when the truck was almost empty, put it in, and then we drove it into the track. Anything more than 100 and they would have smelled it a mile away.

As for the SRT-10, we ran head to head on the first pass, we both ran 13.6's, and without looking at the slip, i think we were .01 apart. Man do those things pick up after the 1/8th :eek: :eek: , he was pulling away from me hard, I thought he killed me in et. After the run, the guy comes up to us and goes, "holy shit, how did you get it to launch like that, I"ve never seen anything like that". After the Hemmings stuff was done, they allowed us to make as many passes as we wanted, the SRT was going 13.1@105 by the end of the day.

1.8's and it wouldve been 13.4's.

Yeah, tell me about it. I ran faster completely stock, full weight (13.3@100). No time to make all the parts play nice together.


And about them knowing, what's the point in modding out my truck and running against everyone that's bone stock. Doesn't really prove anything. And once you get into modding, he who has the deeper pockets wins, not a real ever comparison.
