Even better (and less likely to involve a lawsuit) if your truck is anything like mine, along with others I'm sure, just take the PROM out of the computer when you get out since the comp is laying in the pass. floorboard anyway.

Or, pull the ECM fuse.

DAMN, that sucks dude. I think about this alot when I'm out in the truck and have to part it somewhere. And I even park way out in the back away from everyone. But I know if I came up on someone their gonna think twice about doing it again when my 9mm's pointed at their head.

I too take my chip out as well while at the mall or something.

I simply don't park my truck anywhere except car shows and meets.

That may just be the most economic fix. Just shaving the door locks. Be a lot less body work too.

To respond to your concern of broken glass, clear window tint is a way to combat this.

Merk is right on the tint thing for the windows ... if you have ever gone to a junkyard and the doors are locked or crushed and you try to break the glass with something ... it's a b*tch with the tint. I have hit tinted glass HARD with a 5 pound hand sledge just to watch it bounce off

sucidedoors stuff dont fit I have a gas filler door that is a fancy coaster, The metal is too thick compared to the original and it takes to much heat to weld it do the doors warp. I jusnked a seat of doors because of this. Thats just my opinion. Just get some junk fenbder form a local body shop and make your own.

Well one thing you can do is just shave the lock cylinder and leave the handles, the lock cylinder is where they gain easy access, not easy with just the handle there, and its still a clean look, and you still have the keyless entry to keep it locked up.

after this is done, how the hell do you get the doors open if the battery dies? my truck sits for weeks at a time without being driven... and i keep the doors locked. almost everytime the battery is dead, and i have to use the key to get in. just a thought...

secondly... after being on this forum for 5 years, i've noticed something... 90% of the people that post about break ins and attempted thefts, all have typhoons! wtf? i also notice that the people that have at least some knowledge of cars... all know what a typhoon is, and when you say syclone... they look puzzled and say oh was that the chevy version? or yeah but that one didnt have the turbo in it right? its almost incentive to strip the decals off... you might weed out some of the dipshit theives that'll think its just a blazer with a body kit... who knows... i like the look of shaved doors, but the functionality/hassle/bs at the track just isnt worth it to me. just my :2cents:

btw, how do you shave the lock on the tailgate of a ty?

usually kits have a cable pull that you hide somewhere to allow you to get in.

A "6 foot bike brake cable" is the best back up in case of battery problems IMO . It fishes through the door boot easily and its no effort to pull the end to pop your door open .I've used that for 10-15 installs and never a problem once .

Re: Better door handle/lock solution?

i put a Fuel pump kill switch in. (hidden). the only thing that sucks about this whole thing is that no matter what you do, somthing is getting damaged. and if they want the truck......they will get it.

Re: Better door handle/lock solution?

Punks around here have a unique way of taking out the windows. The problem is rampant and doesn't make a sound.
After talking to some people, it appears they weren't trying to break into it.....they were trying to steal it. Hense why they were "chiseling" around the door lock instead of just punching it in. There was no radio in it because mine had taken a dump. I will be pulling the chip out from now on and putting in a kill switch to shut off the fuel pump.

Theives are like the pond scum, got no respect for them. The sad thing is that our Ty's are really easy to get into without any damage at all, but most people don't realize how to. A cool way to prevent theft would be if you had a remote door lock hooked to a solenoid with somekind of current break to the battery. So each time you locked the doors with the remote it wouldn't start, but I agree the column lock, is bulky but the best.
