I wonder if your friend will regret getting the new car.

That looks great! Congrats! Do you remember the paint code used for the grey? Need to repaint mine but hear from the factory the actual color varried.
I've begun to get this back on the road. After the sale of DesertSy earlier this year, I've been suffering boost-withdrawal. Having been in storage for exactly 4 years, I'm surprised by how well this old turd drives and runs. I'm enjoying it again.
The main hurdle at present is it failed the Room of Doom 3 years ago. Not by much, but it did. A client of mine told me he got his 540i to pass by using a CRC product called Guaranteed to Pass. While the cats on his Bimmer cost $1,500, and mine is maybe $150, I thought it worth a try as its a lot less hassle to pour a can of $12 shit in the tank than replace the cat. I've been driving it every night to use up the tank of gas with the additive. Once that is gone, the instructions say to refill the tank, drive it a few miles, then take it in for testing.
I'm hoping that this and new plugs (I can attest that 48,000 miles is too far, they were pretty worn) will get it legal.
Welcome "back".
I used to see a white/gray on occasion when I lived near Calabasas. Since then, I associate the color with California.
After always being a cynic of snake oil type products, a couple of years ago, I used a product called cataclean for the first time on a non syty vehicle that had borderline emissions levels. It worked and just by the smell of the tail pipe, I could tell the efficiency of the 20 year old cat had increased.
This year after struggling every year to pass emissions with my ty, I used some on that. It had been stood for two years and still passed easier than it ever had before. The product you used may well be a similar product. I believe cataclean is now sold in the US under the Mr Gasket brand. Apart from lubeguard in the trans, and previously 'other' occasional fuel system cleaners I dont tend to go for additives.
I am sold on cataclean though. It works for me. Good luck with yours, I hope it passes.
Update on Room of Doom:
I drove a full tank of treated fuel through it, then added a couple gallons and took it in yesterday. The guy I use and I have a 10 year working relationship. He does all my cars, and knows I know what I'm doing and am not trying to pull any shenanigans. We put it on the machine in manual Mode and I thought it was broken. Like 8 for HC, and zero for CO. He ran the test, and it failed. WTF. The State computer just runs a program, it doesn't tell what's wrong. The readings were great, but the program failed it. My guy used a "trick" and passed it anyway. The readings at 2500 were .01 CO and 25ppm HC. Well within limits. So I don't get it.
Anyway, I'm legal. There are some other issues, mostly cosmetic (it desperately needs the paint to be rubbed out) but I have a boosted errand car back. Coolness.
