I'm at a difficult decision, I love my vette but am thinking of moving to a place with snow and bad roads. The vette would definately only be a summer driver and not alot of good roads to enjoy it even in the nice weather. I think that even if I keep the vette I'll get a Ty at some point but would probably have to go with a standard Jimmy 4x4 for the first couple of winters.....But I'm thinking of just saying screw it and getting rid of the vette and buying the much Cheaper Ty....It would break my heart as the Z06 is my dream car, but I've always wanted a Ty too, and the prices are pretty reasonable now.

What are your thoughts? I know this is a Ty forum and you love your trucks but I'm trying to decide on waiting and keeping the vette driving a junker or selling the vette and getting a Ty and saving a crapload of money.....

Bobby

Where are you moving to Alaska? There are plenty of Sy/Ty's up north and out west.

It would be Fairbanks, I know I saw some in Anchorage, which actually a coastal town and is harder on cars than Fairbanks. But I don't know that I ever saw one in Fairbanks although I'm sure there is a couple up there...

I wasn't meaning that the 4.3 or turbos were no big deal as far as good quality. I was thinking more along the lines of reliability and fixing it if something were to break. Maybe an BMW 325ix would be a nice winter car but when something goes its not easy and inexpensive to fix. While thinking in those terms the Ty probably wouldn't cost as much doing most of the work myself. Plus the family business up there is auto parts..mostly 4x4 and performance crap but I can get a shortblock pretty cheap etc.

The idea of a Braphoon (Bravado with turbo) is starting to grow on me as well. Especially with decent starter Bravado's in the 3k range. But a Typhoon is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much cooler its not even funny. A 14 second Bravado would be kind of fun though, screw a couple of Rustang owners up :) I guess I could work on that and learn the ropes cheaply and buy my low mile dream Typhoon or even Syclone later to keep the vette company in the winters...

Well if it was your Ty and Cash for the vette I may consider it in the near future :) But I don't think that is what you meant!

I have a 97 SS and a Ty would not sell either, but I already have a good daily driver..Toyota pickup...I personally would not sell a z06 to get a ty. You can't really compare them. They are two different animals. I was looking into gettinga ty last summer but was going to have to sell my Toyota to buy one. Eric (smaug) talked me out of it because it would be my daily driver. So I waited 9 months and saved up for it now I have all #3:tup: ...and I kept the wife:rant: quiet because I bought her an Acura MDX last March. Good luck.

Maybe I'll just tell her if she doesn't let me I'm going to start pestering her about a crotch rocket...that might do it

Whats your wife drive?

I would keep the vette. Get a Ty, and buy a $1500 beater.

Re: Any vette\camaro owners previous or current Ty's

Is the heater going to be adequate? I'm not sure if there is something wrong with my blower motor or these things just have weak motors stock but the only thing I've been in with a weaker blower motor was my old 69 Firebird. If Ty blower motors are like what's in my Sy you'd never get it to heat up in the winter. Maybe others can chime in on this?

My truck blows hot enough air, just not enough of it to keep a vehicle warm in Fairbanks. Hell, my truck wouldn't stay warm there and it doesn't have nearly the interior space to heat up compared to a Sy.

FWIW, I used to drive my 69 Firebird around Fairbanks in the winter, I was 18 and always freezing my ass off as it just wouldn't heat up but I did get a ton of looks (traction was a huge issue) and it started far easier than most cars due to the MSD ignition.

My Sy can sweat me out with a 180° stat in the middle of a Michigan winter. Not quite Alaska, but it does get into the negatives here. Once it actually gets warmed up, I have to turn the blower/heat down to stay comfortable.

She's got a 98 Z28 Vert that is pretty pimped out.. We're definately getting rid of that, she has her mind set on a Tahoe, tried talking her into a Typhoon but she just thinks of it as an Old S10 no matter how much I try and rationalize it's benefits to her...

LOL yeah I drove a 70 2wd shortbox pickup with Biasply tires when I lived there. Traction was just stupid but it started most days and the header worked.

So is there a group of Sy/tys that hang out in Portland area? I'd love to get to take a look at some and talk to the owners... You ever make it the Friday night drags at Woodburn I'm going to try and make it either this Friday or next...

Find someone close to you now with either a sy or a ty and have them give her a boost launch. See what she says then

Re: Any vette\camaro owners previous or current Ty's

I would put an Lt1 in a Bravada (91-94) and call it a day. maybe an LS1 in a newer style bravada (97-02). You will have AWD, and 300+hp. Typhoon gets interestign in snow and ice when it gets into boost. You also have to consider the ABS will never work right on the Typhoon. The lowered stance will help you to plow up snow drifts, and break the front cladding. Are you gonna raise the truck up to avoid that?

I have a 98vette and a Ty. I use my blazer to beat around in the winter, even though we will only net 3 snows a year.

My Sy blows great. Ooops that sounds funny, my HVAC systems does atleast blow adequately for such as small cabin. The A/C in my Sy cools off my truck better than any vehicle I have ever owned, I imagine the heat would be great as well. The heating system doesn't work quite as well in a Ty in the winter, but I still found it adequate.

I just bought a Grand cherokee, lifted it on 20s with 33in All terrain KOs, and play with the ty when its dry.

No group hanging out right now, could be because they're being worked on. I have a buddy Bill in Vancouver with a fast truck (10.8), I'm having trouble getting my truck sorted and of the other four Sy's I know of around here they're either being worked on, or the owners have such fear of them breaking they don't drive them much as it's sucked the fun out of it.

Re: Any vette\camaro owners previous or current Ty's

If you want a quick winter beater/ dd get a ****ing DSM. AWD, turbo, cheap as **** entry price. High matience, but no where near what a sy/ty requires. 28 mpg on the freeway compared to about 11 for the ty, and with a good set of tires and the optional rear LSD it will take you anywhere you want to go in the snow. I had mine through about 1' of fresh unplowed snow before, and it took it like a champ. The only down side is the relatively high insurance (more than a SY, slightly less than a TY) and the fact that every fag riceboy within 103830840384 mile radius will want to race you. I used to get reved on at pretty much every stop light. Found out that the one thing that pisses rice boys off even more than beating them, is giving them the thumbs down and letting them know they're not worth wasting your gas on.
