A2A IC Question

I recently got my truck tuned. The tuner told me my 50 lbs injectors were being pushed to the limit and I could upgrade. Also my intercooler is upgraded from stock but still not good enough. I was told a A2A would do much better for my setup. Instead of going with a expensive intercooler from RPM or the very few vendors that carry them can I just buy a intercooler off of ebay. What would be the correct demonions to fit correctly. Can someone help me out here.

Items I need:
A2A intercooler
bigger injectors (50 lbs. are installed now)
spark plug wires

Any suggestions from the SyTy crew? My goal is 500 hp on 18-20psi. My motor is built and I'm running a TE45A turbo.

Hey R & C,
Spark plugs wires - RPM Taylors are awesome have always used them and mike will make them all 90 degrees or same as factory if needed. Some boot sleeves work well too to help keep the heat away from wires.

What is a TE45 equal too. If its like a 52 or somewhere close 50 lbers are fine, with my GT35R which is in the 60 trim range then you need 70-80 injectors, bigger is always being safe.

Air 2 Air not many choices out there. It will cost 500-700 bucks for all the core, tanks, piping, couplers, and t-bolts. Remember the less Coupler the less chance of anything leaking or blocking off. I have a custom one for sale, Front mount 25 x 13 x 4 but you will need to remove the a/c condenser in order to fit in front of radiator. I'm looking to get $ 1500.00 picked up with everything.

Thanks for the info. I do not have ac in my truck and the fan/blower is also removed. When I bought my truck it was not intended for a collector item. (I do have all the stick parts though) I want to make a fun street/track truck. As for the TE45A I have no idea what turbo that is or the stats on it. Maybe someone can chime in on what the exact specs on the turbo are. As for the custom ic your talking about, how much hp can it support? Also do you have pics of everything.

Ok from a couple buick guys. The TE45A non-Q trim should be like mid 60 trim good for high 10's on a 3.8 L motor but on a 4.3L its gonna need more so maybe 11's with a 4.3L motor.

So if its really a 60 trim turbo, then i would say you will need 75-84 lb injectors to be safe and able to tune safely.

I will look on my paper work. Not sure if it is a Q-trim or not. As for the IC...what is the hp limit? I'm going to have to check if it will fit because I have a custom electric fan in there. I'll give you the turbo specifics on the paperwork. Not sure how truthful this is, I was told my Sy ran 11.7 untunned the way it sits. So I hope a front mount IC, bigger injectors, and a better ignition will get me low 11s...going to need help from SyTy guys though. Bed time for me, I'll dig up my records in the mourning...thanks.

P.S. BTW, this thing is running so rich its not even funny. I guess when tunning and leaning it out, you see some knock thanks to the crappy old school water to air. I also have a alky injection kit that works. All in due time I guess with the help of everyone here.

I have a te45a also. From my searching around I think its a water cooled turbo with a 66mm comp wheel. I am not sure on the exhaust side. I may have some info on it somewhere.

I am running 50lb injectors also but with alky.

Good to see you add in the thread :tup: Are you sending those pics over of the front grill? I have to stop sitting on my butt, Sy won't get in top notch shape inless I do. haha

I was running 60-80 degree air intake temps cruising around usually 10 degree hotter then the outside temps.

Power my truck made 390HP 550 Ft LB to the wheels and went 11.2-11.3 @ 120 mph with striaght pump gas. Again speed and power all depend on your cam profile, the installed degree, valve train, your heads, and what kind of exhaust. I was only running a GT35R which had a 61 mm wheel on it It was one of the 1st designs but had 84 lb injectors in the motor.

One of my local fabricators who use to have shop around the corner made me a bracket on the chassis to mount my trans cooler, where the old stock incooler use to go. It was a fan controlled unit so it didn't matter.

HP wise on the intercooler before i sold it, i installed PTE74GTQ and it was just fine with air quality and that turbo wouuld be good for mid tens to high 9's in a Typhoon. Syclone willl alway be faster.

So I just checked my paper work on the turbo. It is a TE45A 66 intake wheel, and 63 precision exhaust. Does not say anything about a Q-trim, that is the only information I have. I really should have someone who knows these trucks inside and outside to look at mine and tell me what do to and not to do.

If your concerned about fast track times why not stay with water to air IC and build an ice chest for the water to circulate through because you can get it colder than Ambient air. What computer are you using? if you are on the stock you may need to mod it to run larger injectors. Do some searches for the fast trucks there have been trucks running low 10's on the stock intercooler just look at Sycho (Denny Rabb"s truck) Check it out! http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=23092&highlight=sycho

I'm running the F.A.S.T. It is bore 30 over, forged pistons, forged rods, brodix heads. Thanks for the advice. I just feel that a A2A would be less work and I wouln't have to worry about ice in the chest all the time. I ice chest would be awesome in the back. What about weight? Lighter to have an A2A correct?

Wow You got Brodix Heads and the Exhaust wheel is a .63. Our motor want air. I had Vortecs ported to flow 290 cfm and the Gt35R exhaust wheel was too small creating too much back press. I had too install a .85 with PTE74 Turbo and it woke up like a beast.

That exhaust housing sounds small for our motors.

Makes me want to know how much brodix heads flow...I bought this truck the way it sits now and thats why I'm here asking for help :rant:

Says they flow 240cfm @ .500 lift

V6-8 are for low rpm applications with 2.08 valves

Do you know what cam is in the motor, would be interesting to see how it compares to the last 2 i have had in my motor.

You can get 300 cfm with the -8 brodies (as well as the -10s) Depends on the work. The 240cfm factory spec are the way they come out of the box. Any used ones out there from the circle track guys that tend to get passed around are in the 300 cfm range.

Brodix cylinder heads (Manley pushrod guide plates and screw in studs)
Bowl and Chamber port work
Full competition port work
