Re: 94 S10 build finally..

It's been awhile since i've updated the page with status, I don't have a ton of time now but i have been keeping some of the pictures up to date.

http://picasaweb.google.com/carpenter.brock/S10Build

Engines 100% assembled and installed in the truck
Fuel lines are all laid out and mostly cut to lenght
bulk heads for the bed floor
build the fuel cell mounting bracket.. overkilled it probably added 10lbs i didn't need
mounted Big stuff 3 harness and cut the hole in the firewall,
make polished diamond plate mount for Big stuff 3, mounting it on trans tunner on the floor (pics on link)

spent couple hours figuring out the factory harness i think i've got it all figured out and i THINK all my gauges are going to work without the factory ECM.

planning on this weekend being a big work weekend for the S10 but looks like i'm hauling, cutting, stacking 4-5 cords of slab wood so hopefully we knock that out tonight or tomorrow morning.

Re: 94 S10 build finally..

One thing i'm not thrilled about is the fuel lines -10/-8 out are big enough running them near the firewall seems all bad. So we made brackets to run them down the driver side valve cover and then cross over to the fender with enough slack that if a motor mount breaks its not going to cut/stretch my lines. I have no idea what the rules are at most of the tracks on something like this but i don't see a save option to get that giant hose away from heat and getting pinched without getting it to the inner fender hopefully no one gets to upset or i'll just be running this on the street or tracks with no tech test and tune nights lol.

Re: 94 S10 build finally..

im not a big fan of those blue lines or all the 90 degree fittings. i prefer the black braided lines with black AN fittings. or the ss lines with blue/red AN fittings.

but the truck is looking awesome. your making nice progress! how close do you think you are till its running?

Re: 94 S10 build finally..

Thanks and i've read lots on your projects and vehicles you do a nice job!

As for the fuel lines i've really been on the fence i bought the first parts to use those lines a year or two ago and almost returned them to go stainless before i picked up the rest but it was looking like a 700+ dollar gap on running them. The only other thing that pushed me was only a couple lines said E85 compliant (which i want to run later) and one of them was the summit twistlok lines. I really hated making the decision on which lines to use but the issue is thats the kinda thing that kept this truck from being done so i had to just suck it up and say i'm using them and follow through with it.

The amount of money in this fuel system already is insane.. 96lb inj 350, aero eliminator 450, weldon reg 250, 10/100 filters 180, fuel cell 200, cooler 100, easily 600-700 in fittings, Yblock, lines -12 -10 -8 etc.. not to mention its sitting on a 300 dollar billet rail EFI conversion on a 2114 that was 250 bucks, I was keeping exact track but when the fuel related stuff started hitting nearly 3k I quit no reason to remember all that. I look around and have no idea how over the last couple years i've collected all parts for this truck.

Depending on how this week goes and what parts show up i'm probably looking at possibly trying to start it next weekend but I'm really pushing to start it by the 26th. We just have to many projects going and i don't want to rush tunning this truck when i have a track day at gingerman coming May 14th. So with any luck ECM will me final mounted tonight inside of the truck back together and i'll start figuring out some of the wiring and sensors. I really want to have power to the ECM next day or two and start testing sensor data ect. Core supports already done it was modified to hold the A2A bar and plate and radiator and thats pretty much it. So once i get all the wiring done its a mater of bolting the front back together now that the new zq8 box is in and steering shafts done, abs out etc.

Re: 94 S10 build finally..

I will be covering all the Blue lines with Black wire loom if it helps the looks at all :) lol, It actually doesn't look bad in person leaving them blue but i want another layer of protection on them.

Hopefully back on track soon, I was planning on testing ecm and possibly starting by this weekend but stuff keeps coming up.. picked up and cut/ loaded stacked 4-5 bundles off slab wood from mills for firewood. Now I've been dealing with buying a mill and have to move it this weekend.. Thread on that in off topic on here.

Re: 94 S10 build finally..

Lol hey that's 100% my grandpas work it was his and he is still around to kick my @ss if I change the looks lol it was all done in 94 brand new.. Pin stripping was out of style when it was done but last coulee shows I always get people asking who did the work.. Local guy JBird hes been doing it 50 years.

Heck when I lowered it and put zq8s on he was on the fence for a week thought I ruined his 22k garage queen. Lol only thing he seems to like is engine work lol. The looks have grown on me over time and don't have the heart to change anything currently, that and I road race this.. People with vipers, vettes, etc etc loose it .. No cowl hood, no shaved door handles and roll pan... It can't be fast lol. All fun and games till that damn visor comes off at 140 this spring at gingerman then I'll be singing a different tune.

Re: 94 S10 build finally..

This builds still slowly moving along at the moment.. had a couple hang ups.. bought a mill (thread on it in the offtopic section) and we rolled my brothers 95 crew cab, long bed 6.5 Diesel truck in to finish it.. new clutch, flywheel, slave/master, injectors, water pump, radiator, fenders inner and outter, core support, brake lines, doors..., grill and head lights (still look for some of this if anyone knows some sources 95+ modern 2 head light style), should be done in the next week or two then i'll be 100% back on the S10 until its running.

Re: 94 S10 build finally..

Alright i need to hear from some of you guys pushing these things or stock.. I plan on running a couple road courses a year so figure 20-30 min solid of WOT on and off. I have a killer 3000+ CFM Taurus fan that i've prooven reliable in other setups but i'm doubting the factory radiator and i have to buy one since mines dead.

go factory?

go with some ebay one.. like
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bran...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

suck it up and get a becool, griffin etc custom or direct fit..

I want to hit the strip this weekend or at least get allot of tunning done so i need to move quick on this.

Thanks!

Re: 94 S10 build finally..

Hi Brock;

I have been running the same radiator for the past 4 years now. It is a unit the local radiator shop builds for S10's that do the V8 swap.

I have also considered doing a 2-pass aluminum unit from Allstar (Lane Automotive) if I ever needed to change mine.

While I never ran mine for 20-30 minutes steady, I did hot-lap my truck plenty last year and I have a short-fill in my block.

Rds.

I dont know if your core support is like ours, but a 31x16 griffin from summit fits well. you can even slide it inside the support, problem then is the filler neck. the route i am taking is extend my neck to come through the support. just got to drill a hole large enough. It does not have a oil cooler or trans cooler in it, but thats why they make external ones. :2cents:

Re: 94 S10 build finally..

awesome I was working on finding a universal griffin we did that on another s10 were building lq4 67mm turbo the rad is inside core support, however my a2a is the entire core support the other truck we moved it forward until we notched frame horns.

So stock won't cut it I take it ?
