92" typhoon ls1 project

hey guys i have started this project a few days ago... and looking to have a powerful and light awd car ...
im planning to start by just using rear wheel drive to save time and install the front drive shaft after all the bugs have been fixed and untill the car would be stable because the previous owner told me about the ls1 oil pan conflicts with the front driveshaft system.. when all is going right and the car is set up.. i will begin the phase of staged upgrading starting by modding the oil pan and installing the front drivetrain after..
i plan of using a thm700r4 transmission and i will also already install the transfer case.. and in the future hoping to upgrade to a ratchet shifter system
the car has a 5cm body lift installed as a result for the oil pan to fit:search: .. but seemed unsuccesful so i would also remove that
im new to mechanics and im 14 so i need you guys to guide me through here's my list of works to do

1=change wheels for easy transport and to look decent
2=remove the whole front driveshaft
3=remove the whole front body panels for easy engine installation
4=remove the 5cm body lift installed
5=clean up the whole engine bay
6=mount on the engine and transmission
7=install engine components
8=install harnesses and electrical components
9=restore all handling parts like brakes and the suspension system
10=test drive the vehicle
11=fix any remaining bugs
12=restore body parts
and after everything is done and if i found a solution to the oil pan palroblem
i will go forward to installing the front driveshaft and run awd.
anyways please give any comment or suggestion that would help me with this project thanks..
i leave you with some pictures i took for the car:cheers:

Re: 92" typhoon ls1 project

so for day two i had limited time so i thought what was an easy and fast job well the front clip was only held by two bolts on the top for transport and i thought it wasnt that heavy so thats exactly what i invested my time with and i was planning to bring in the ls1 after two days so im installing it with the front clip off... the front clip's condition is not really ''solid'' alot of stuff were cut out specially when they needed to extend space for the radiator when the previous owner tried to install an lt1 so i bought a new front clip which was in great condition but was from an s10 blazer not a typhoon or a syclone so i had to move the front fenders to that one if i was going to intstall it i will have to see if i do need the space cut out for the radiator in the original front clip if not im planning to install the other one.

anyways heres a video of the whole removal as i said it was only held by two bolts so there was no instuctions needed..

Re: 92" typhoon ls1 project

Went to the warehouse last night (me and my brother) to pickup the ls1 and the TH700R4 trans here's the warehouse

IMG_1742.jpg

oh yah and the two trucks are a 1993 chevy truck ss454 swapped 8.1 and a 1972 chevy truck c20 stock which has alot of stuff on the bed

IMG_1743.jpg

we took the ls1 from a 2001 caprice v8 (in saudi arabia) and it has a 4l60e transmission attached to it so we had to remove that first to install the 700 trans

IMG_1747.jpg

IMG_1755.jpg

so i took of all the transmission bolts and we started seperating the transmission from the engine

IMG_1754.jpg

IMG_1756.jpg

IMG_1758.jpg

After that we brought out the th700r trans which already had the Borg Warner 4472 transfer case installed to it that we took from an astro van awd

IMG_1759.jpg

IMG_1760.jpg

IMG_1762.jpg

after that we strapped it together with the ls1 for transport

IMG_1765.jpg

then now we needed the hummer h3 oil pan .. it was already a previous project to intstall a gm 4.8 into the typhoon before so i took it off the old engine

and after that we loaded everything on the truck and went home

Re: 92" typhoon ls1 project

im here in riyadh :)

where are your cars located now??

Salam siddiq ;)

I was in Ras Tanura/Dammam/ Al Khobar (ARAMCO) many years ago when my Dad bought his Ty from AL JOMAIH in Al Khobar.

I bought it off him a few years ago - see the signature in my thread. I also recently bought a Saudi Syclone here in the UK where both cars now reside.

It has a stock block with forged internals and a bigger turbo/better heads etc. The Syclone has a blown engine and I was looking at doing the 4.8 conversion that you have there.

My Typhoon is definitely mine :D My Dad bought it as a demo model - he used to beat Corvettes in the rain on King Khaled St. in Dammam after he bought it. Then we moved and he sold it to me and I have cherished it ever since. I must be mafi much :rotf:

Thanks for the compliment!

Cool pics - reminds me of this truck:

That may be the same one that inspired my build. Makes me wonder about putting the rack on.

I'm surprised none of the cladding broke in the video of you removing the front end. It make me wince when it hit the ground...
