Re: 6 years??

Mine is approaching 2 years.
We put it up after Nats 05, pushed it towed it and pushed it back in the garage in 06.
I just drove it the first time Aug 20th, it was my birthday present to myself.

I had local trucks around to get my "fix" on so it wasn't bad.

6 years is ridiculous.
What shop was it that took that long, lol
I am sure it became a back burner project.
They all do at one time or another.

The olson twins' 18th birthday was a justified wait. Not driving your truck for 6yrs is not. Unless you are doing something super radical like kevlar body, tube frame, LS7 bi-turbo ... so lets hear your story :popcorn:

Ask Dean, his was in for a while, but not that long...

My Sy cracked the stock engine block back in jan 2001. Then it sat for almost 3 years collecting dust and letting the fuel line rot out.
In 2003 I started buying parts from RPM to get it running, gave up then at which time in 2004 I handed it over to Mike at RPM and receantly got it back here in 2007 "pretty much" done. So it sat for 6 1/2 years before being a daily driver again but was at the shop for 3 years. But it only felt like ten years... :rotf:

Is your truck at Rockford Racecraft?

I am at just about the same time frame. The first four years it sat and collected dust and beer cans on the rear bumper though. Sometimes things take a bigger priority, such as getting married and buying a house and what not. Then you have to find the time to work on it. I live over an hour away so I only get about 2 hours a week if I am lucky to work on it total. Seems like half that 2 hours is spent bullshitting and taking cigarette breaks!

All I need to do is finish up the wiring and run the fuel lines and I am all gravy. motor/trans and misc is done and in.

i bought my truck 8 years ago. drove it as a daily driver for 25k miles and then tore it apart and dumped thousands into it essentially making a street monster. well it was a monster until it cracked a block and has been immobilized for 3 years now. so i feel your pain, but i have a motor in the shop as we speak so i am about to be back on the road!!!!!

Re: 6 years??

Jesus.. 4.5 and 6 years? Unless it was a frame-off restoration or you weren't fully funding the work being done, that's completely outrageous. I've owned my truck for 6 years and put 50,000 miles on it and a hell of a lot of racing. You guys have way more into your truck than I do if you're having a shop work on it for that long, you could be a lot better off!! I'd cut my losses and move elsewhere ASAP.

There's nothing so unobtainable for these trucks that it can't be solved. I mean christ, the bulk of it is Small block chevy parts or standard racing parts. Think about NHRA pit crews that rebuild an entire engine in 76 minutes. It's certainly possible to get a LB4/ZR9 rebuilt/repaired in less than 3,153,600 minutes :) (6 years / minutes)

What could possibly be the builders excuse? Did you pay for the work in full? How could he remain in business if he never finishes a job?

Re: 6 years??

I find the responses to this thread pretty funny.

Jimmy - You know SyTy's pretty well, there is no doubting that. But at the end of the day you spend how many thousands of dollars on a motor and your running 12's maybe a high 11 on a good day? I know stock longblock bolt on trucks that run that and they didn't have to purchase a motor to do so. So when it comes to giving advise on that subject I think you are a bit off.

Tooky - Why are you even posting on the subject? Last time you butted your head in where you didn't belong you ended up saying sorry how many times? Then you had to leave with your head between your legs.

Who in this thread actually knows Herman's information? Who here who has posted knows if he has paid, or hasn't paid? Who here knows what work he has gotten done or not gotten done? NO ONE! To tell someone to leave a shop when you don't know ANY of the facts let alone some of them is ignorant and naive.

When someone such as him, me or anyone else allows a project to take that long I believe it is quite clear that it is not a top priority for the owner of the truck. If the time frame was/is such an issue why wasn't it ever addressed? Has he complained once in his post about it? NOPE so why does everyone else feel the need to put the .02 cents in. He asked a simple question and the peanut gallery was not able to give a simple answer.

These types of actions seem to explain alot to me. I have been sitting back debating whether I want to make the drive to KC next week or not. I went to look at the SyTyNationals.com page and I saw the list of sponsors. Here is the list:

Vendors & Sponsors

* Double Tree Hotel
* KCIR
* N.A.S.T.E.
* Nadine Graphics
* Revolution Industries
* SyTy.net
* SyTy.org
* Track and Show Fabrication

That is a PATHETIC list of sponsors and vendors considering how many quality shops have opened who are able to work on the trucks. That list use to be quite a bit longer did it not? But why should people support an event when they get constantly shit on by other ill informed members?

The phrase "Don't shit where you sleep" comes to mind. Keep making stupid, ignorant, naive, ill informed post on subjects you know nothing about and there will be no supporting shops or vendors left.

-END RANT-

Now go ahead and bash me like usual. The fact is not one thing is this post is not true.

Re: 6 years??

Silly, I find your response to this thread funny.

Jimmy drinks beer and smokes pot. His truck runs and he does allot of his own work. He doesnt like Guy, so what.

TookyKitty: he is a goon. However, he made his truck go fast all by his lonesome; so I am real sure you cant toss stones his way. He at least can work on his own truck. I know you now make this claim but I think your cigarette breaks far outnumber your wrench turning sessions.

You have been beat down here more than anyone so I'd just enjoy your long project and get it done. Cant wait to see some track numbers.

BTW, my truck has been a project for over 2 years now, and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes 2 more...

For what its worth I am down to 2 cigarettes a day total. Its a hard nasty habit to kick.

Can't disagree with anything in your post though.

But for someone to constantly bash someone they have never met, nor done business with is not right and should not be allowed.
