New Parts for Old Trucks
Re: 4.000 piston help!!

Splitting molecules about which 10 year date expired first is pointless . They don't make them anymore if it was 2001 , or if it was still 2003 . Both left the train station a long long time ago .

What he said anyways was that in 2003 , it was difficult sourcing these parts . Now that it has been another 10 years on top of that , imagine the quest to be impassable .

Re: 4.000 piston help!!

:dunno: What Dave was most likely saying is the following. People that are into cars or have connections within the industry know that by law a manufacturer only has to supply parts for 10 years. Even if the same parts were used on other models (ie Syclone, Typhoon pistons).

Now knowing this you can understand why the "out of production" year would be 2001 for the Syclone/Typhoon pistons. By the way the out of production applies to every part on the truck. Anytime after the 10 year mark the manufacturer can close out or discontinued any and all parts if they want. We are lucky that GM and many other manufacturers sends the remaining parts to Vintage (Right now they show a grand total of 16 Syclone/Typhoon pistons) in stock.

It is for this same reason that I cannot get a replacement door panel for 1 of my cars. It was made in 2001 and didn't go out of production until after the 2005 model year. By the way even though you can get a 2013 Silverado with a 4.3L. There are no parts on the motor that were in use on the Syclone/Typhoon engine. I'm not saying they won't fit, I'm saying that as built there are no parts that were use on them.

Thanks. That's exactly the kind of response I was hoping for. An explanation. I was aware that nothing on the current 4.3 is the same. Thanks. That cleared up a lot of confusion

Maybe we should start referring to the 4.3's in "GEN 1/2/3".......

Re: 4.000 piston help!!

Then wouldn't the "out of production" year be 2003 since they made the Typhoon thru 1993?

The time clock is sometimes restarted if some major changes were made, like engine design changes, body changes, etc. The time clock for the 10 years started with the Syclone as stated by a GM Rep that I know. The change to the Typhoon body was not looked at as a major change. The reason for that is the fact that the Typhoon used the Syclone engine and related equipment.
