3" downpipe GP!

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

In order for this to get done in a timely manner I am going to ask that people who would like a DP let me know before April 15th. As this will allow JS time to make the flanges, get them to me and have the DP made sometime early May. Payment won't be due till the DPs are actually made and ready.

As it is looking right now, the Standard DP is going to be $400+shipping give or take $20 depending on how much work he actually has to do. The flange from JS will be a $30 option, and a cut out option will be a $30 option as well. You can also feel free to come pick up the DP if you wish. We could have a cool pick up your DP meet.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

I'll ask a couple of my locals.
I know they have skipped the PTE setup because of cost.

Pencil me in as wanting the JS flange and dump.

Have you considered the design yet?
Is it going to be a 2 piece design with a V-Band or similar?

With the tolerances from truck to truck being so different it'd be nice to have some adjuatbility in it.

This F'n rox. I was afraid I'd have to tow my Ty to the JS garage and hold them hostage for a weekend to get my 3" donkey pipe.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

is going to be made of cut and welded sections of a mandrel u-bend like a pte? would your guys sell you one that was unwelded except for the flange and exhaust elbow portion? i could use one for a ty with a stock turbo...

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

If you order one you are going to most likely getting it in two peices for you to adjust as you see fit. It is also easier (and cheaper!) to ship it to you that way.

Does that answer your question? Let me know if it doesn't

Will it come with a band clamp or would it need to be welded?

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

There are still some design issues that will need to be worked out. Bad thing about the clamp is that if it is two peices you woudn't want the band right in the way of the spark plugs as changin them is hard enough as it is. Welding would be difficult as well because it would make installing it harder.

As it gets closer to the day of the prototype, I will be have more details. Trust me in saying tha tit will be the best possible approach with the least amount of hassle.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

i have a custom 1 piece 3" PTE style downpipe on my sy and being one piece, you have to remove the turbo to get it out....also, it will only come out through the engine compartment....the only union is a three bolt union flange down by the tranny...but the fit is perfect, because i made it for "my" truck....that's why i asked above if they might consider selling it in kit form....that might work for some people that know how to weld....just mock up the pieces, tack them, remove and weld then reinstall....it's a pretty tight fit down there, you know.....you have to clear the pass. exhaust manifold, the frame, and the cab.....plus, i've heard the sy and ty's engine position is off by an inch or so in height.....

edit: the more i think about it, they should all be the same in regards to manifold clearance (from the turbo to the pass. manifold)....the frame and body (bottom half of downpipe) is where we might have differences and might need adjustability....i've never installed a run of the mill syty downpipe, but i've heard some don't fit very well....i'm to do solid mounts on my sy as soon as JS gets more pads made and you never know, my custom downpipe position might change after i install them....

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

I have solid mounts on my truck right now and the fitment will be moderately based on what my truck is like. As for adjustability, I will try to make it the best as possible, but there will always be differences as you go from truck to truck.

I can ask about getting everything set up like a kit for the welders among us. I am sure it wouldn't be too hard to accomodate.

Use the force to fix it
Re: 3" downpipe GP!

I want one for sure. I want to knock out the puck and have a dump tube for the gate. I also need a cat replacement tube, mine I think is clogged and robbing me of power and spool time. let me know when it will be ready!! And when to pay! So JS flange and dump for me.

I can see there being a demand soon since the stock downpipes are not made anymore and they are rusting out on the daily driven trucks.

And put me down as seriously interested, whether it be stock style or with the puck knocked out.
I'd be willing to pay extra for a dump, but its up to you how much work you want to put into it.

C'mon guys, the stock 2.5" DP is not gonna last forever.

OK, Help the non-informed or uneducated. What is the puck you are talking about? How does removing it help these trucks? Pictures would help to explain this. Can they be had with a Jet Hot Coating or whatever for heat protection? I'm thinking I might want one with no cut out to replace my stock one, because that's what turns me off on all the other replacements.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

If you look directly to the right of the stock DP look from behind the Turbo, you will see a circular section of metal that has been welded into place. That is the puck we are talking about. You probably can get the best look at the puck from through the wheel well. Knocking this out will help the wastegate flow better and will result in better boost control and less pressure on the exhaust side at higher boost levels.

As for Coating, you would have to have that done on your own if you get one.

The GP can only take one more then it will be closed off.
