3" downpipe GP!

Just to get an initial interest going, would any one be interested in a 3" downpipe for stock/20g turbo?

Costs will be $400(+-$20) and shipping. Material will be Stainless Steel. JS Manufacturing will be providing the flanges that will incorporate the wastegate puck area for $30, and Cut Out will also be available for $30 as well. (read JS's post further down about the wastegate hole)

Probably need about 4-5 people besides me to get this thing rolling.

1. Clint (Divergent Lightning) Flange, extra bung (PAID)
2. Jason (Loeryder) Flange, CO, extra bung (PAID)
Nick (h.c.punk) -Flange only, no DP- (PAID)
3. Brian (Sy-1177) Standard (PAID)
4. Christian (olskoolturbo), Flange and CO (PAID)
5. Lloyd (SY2455) Flange (PAID)
6. Tom (BBW808) Flange and extra bung

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

Couple questions but I am definitely interested...

Fits stock style turbo?

Includes exhaust dump cutout?

Could the DP flange incorporate knocking out the plug on the exhaust housing to allow the wastegate to dump directly into the DP?
Similar to the PTE style setup.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

The downpipe will be fitted to a stock style turbo. So fitment there shouldn't be a problem.

A cut out could be done, but it will change the price of the pipe. Not sure about the DP flange, I will have to check. Pretty sure it can be done, but I am not going to say quite yet.

Details will come if there is a strong initial interest in the pipe.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

I can see there being a demand soon since the stock downpipes are not made anymore and they are rusting out on the daily driven trucks.

And put me down as seriously interested, whether it be stock style or with the puck knocked out.
I'd be willing to pay extra for a dump, but its up to you how much work you want to put into it.

C'mon guys, the stock 2.5" DP is not gonna last forever.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

As one that has build, tested several 3" dp's.

The big benefit will be from an enlarged flange and knocking out the puck, cutting out excess material.

So much gain in fact we saw 6mph in 1/4 when done right.

If you use stock outlet will be waste of effort IMO.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

Jeff, you think this is true even when using an external wastegate? I know the puck removal would help flow for the wastegate, but I wonder if it would help overall flow as well. Hell, I'm thinking about cutting that puck out as well as the metal left between it and the stock outlet to create a huge excape area for the exhaust. I'd be willing to try it on my 14cm housing if I were to ever switch up from the 12 I'm using...

I guess if it worked well enough I'd put this external gate on the shelf....

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

I can tell you we have excellent boost control with internal gate and new flange.

Stock turbo now doesn't run out of steam at ~80mph like it did before.

External gate help yes, but big flange still be worth it IMO.

I am tempted to join, but I don't know if I really want to spent that much more money on the stock turbo when I have plans for a larger PTE turbo kit.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

I should be able to get some more details by the end of the day, including feedback about the DP flange.

Jeff have any pictures of that puck cut out?

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

jsmanufacturing.com gallery has some DP pics.

No public pics of my mods :)

Shouldn;t be hard for someone to figure out though.

I'm thinking the same thing. But then i'm also wondering how much this would help my 20g. Hmmmmmm....... decisions, decisions.

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

Keep in mind that something like this still has a lot of headroom.

You have 3 more exhaust housings to play with (10, 12, 14) and easily a 20g compressor that will all bolt up. Then you have the ability to get a hybrid turbo that grafts a garret front end on the mitsu backend, so it will bolt up. Then you have RPM's new stock dp compatable exhaust housing that you could use as well.

Theres still a lot of options if your not looking to run 10's

Re: 3" downpipe GP!

Thanks for that clarification Ian. It seems like more and more people are getting sick of having to shell out about $700 for a PTE DP so that they can use a PTE turbo.

Ditto, I need to get that jig together so that I can fab up a 3" DP for my PTE stealth turbo that has been on the shelf for almost a year now :(... Going to reroute the dump location over the PTE DP and make provision for an external wastegate. If I was going to stay stock turbo, I would be on this GP in a heartbeat. Glad to see some innovation for these trucks  !
