I hope not....one of the reason I like our trucks is because they are not made anymore ---

Re: 2007 typhoon

it could heighten the awareness/price of the originals though. I'd like to see a new one personally. Would most likely buy one too.

That has a lot of potential. I've seen a few of them running around and I think it would make a very good platform. Just depends on what they do inside to help it hold together....I just hope they don't do another "impala" POS ripoff. You know what I mean? I may be holding off on the next vehicle until one of these comes out.
Do a google image search on "2007 gmc typhoon" and look what pops up:

Looks like it may be real. Lots of references to the syty from gm when they are talking about this.

Thats the accadia, the released it at the chicago auto show this year. I hope the typhoon isnt based off that. I just cant seem to imagine a syclone/typhoon that doesnt look like a brick...

Re: 2007 typhoon

I just drove an outlook / acadia the other day... the thing drove nice, kinda comfy. Larger than it looks (bigger than a TBSS). It would have been a lot more fun but the 3.6VVT engine doens't have any balls below about 6000 rpm and it rev limits at 6800

Re: 2007 typhoon

I think this should be based off of a compact, two door SUV to use the name.

I will hate GM marketing forever if they use the nameplate as a selling point like I think they are....

Unfortunately, such a vehicle no longer exists. Apparently we can't deal with climbing into the back seat in this country anymore

I do not think the Acadia / Outlook platform would make a good new truck... too big and van-like. A Vue I could see, but they shouldn't call it a Typhoon

Just thank your lucky stars they aren't going to do this

I don't give a crap what GM makes. It's all crap.

I HATE it when any of the companies bring back dead names. It just makes it harder to look for the real ones.

Here's my list of stupid names that make the originals look bad:

New Impala SS. WTF?

Nova.A Toyota was a Nova.

Malibu. No such thing as a FWD Malibu IMO.

Those ****ing gay "Daytona" Dodge trucks. This is what happens when you smoke crack.

Four door FWD Dodge Charger. ACK.

Those FWD Shelby Daytona's (Omni's) from way back.Holy ****ing shit way to spoil 2 great names at once.

Probably a million more to list, but I got beer to drink.

Here's a novel idea, next time those ****s want to sully a previous name, why don't they just use the crap names of the crap cars they made? 2007 Vega,Valiant,Pinto,Chevette,Duster,Mustang II,Monza,Cordoba,Imperial,Caprice,Escort,Omni,ect,ect........ :dunno:

Re: 2007 typhoon

I couldn't hate GM marketing more. C'mon, a new Typhoon. WTF. It kills me that they will ruin a classic truck name just to make a buck. What makes SyTy's great is their originality low production numbers, and the community (like this one) that goes with it. Now some jackass who knows nothing of the originals can plunk down his 50 grand to buy an ugly ass 400 horsepower (it seems 400 HP is the magic number if you want to rebadge whatever classic they are raping) SUV. The same jackass will probably pull up next to an original Ty and want to race without knowing what he is reving his engine at.

If it does end up beign a decent truck, they should have a program like Ferrari were you have to own one before you can buy a new one.

All these new BS mucle cars they say got this&that horse power.Put them up against something old and watch them get
wooped! The new Trailblazer SS is a nice machine for $36,000.If you can't get ah Corvette. It really depends what you buying the car for.1(to race)2(to collect)3(because you like). If your buying it to race your the dummy. Your going to spend almost 75k just to get it to really run.

A vehicle I could like as a new Typhoon would be that Nomad concept vehicle (based on the Kappa platform, like the Solstice) that made the car show rounds a few years ago. Small, 2-door, would probably jump pretty good with a turbo.

Manufacturers have to slap a brand name on a product ever so often or they lose the rights to the name. Could be the legal guys are telling GM they have to use the Typhoon name or lose it. Unfortunately, that probably means a cheesy stripe package on a lard-assed POS. Hope I'm wrong.

Don't you drive a GMC? Maybe you need to sell that to us and go buy a pair of Nikes and a skateboard if you want something reliable.

GMC cannot build a typhoon for the US market they do not own The name PAS still owns the name

All they would have to do is say it's "based" on the Typhoon platform. WIth it already being in the system as "Typhoon", I'd imagine they overcome that roadblock. The Impala that they dicked up is the first car that comes to mind. I'd have to see it first. Its obvious they don't do any marketing research before designing a vehicle.
