Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

nice progress, that's the leveling device, i wouldn't bother with it and throw it away and put in some new shocks

The shocks are pretty much brand new - only about 300 miles since installation so I'm keeping those.

Self - levelling - no worries, don't plan on using it!

As for the cladding, it is stock. I know this because of how easily it fell apart when the guy was working on it

No caravans for this puppy :D

Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

yes - bilsteins I think. They are the least of my worries - now I have to figure out how to lower the rear - blocks or springs? Then centring the wheel in the arch - did you do your Ty Rene? What did you use?

Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

go springs, blocks just are not right for all the work you have done. oh, and blocks suck, if you want some i got some, then ill buy springs

coming along nicely , looks good. the only thing i would consider is taking a rattle can of black undercoating to the rear wheel wells.

Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

Springs are what I am going to do - I just need the right part numbers and where to get them from. I also want to make sure that the truck can still carry 4 in the back - looks like I am going with the Bell Tech drops but I can't work out if I want 2" or 3" in the back. Hmmmmm.

Having searched and found this: belltechlowering springs I am wondering if perhaps the blocks would be good until there is a ladder kit/ rear coilover setup. Seems a shame to waste money on the springs if people aren't happy and it's only aesthetic initially.

lowering shims

The black undercoat is something I have been thinking as well.....

Thanks for the suggestions and comments guys!

Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

nice to see the progress ball rolling again,

:cmas:

Well in the words of warmpancakes, the progress ball is really gathering some pace.

To recap, I haven't been able to work on the truck for 2 years as it was dismantled and then in the body shop this past year.

I had it delivered 2 days after my 30th birthday and the 3 days prior to Christmas I have been trying to get the garage sorted. I had a whole 20ft shipping container to fill with my parents' junk before I could even get the car in the garage. Then I needed to wire up the lighting so I can see what I am doing. I got tthere in the end!

I managed to start work on the truck today and it has gone really well....

Got it on the axle stands (where all Tys belong right? :rotf:)

Today I dropped the fuel tank and replaced the old sender unit and also installed my Walbro - wasn't as big a deal as people made out. I have the racetronix kit as well..

100_0422.jpg

It helps that the underside is immaculate - the only dirt on the nuts was the anti seize compound - talk about making life easy...

100_0423.jpg

I also changed the old hinges on the rear window, a minor but essential cosmetic job.

I mocked up the 4L80E adapter plate and prepped that for getting assembled onto the transfer case. The trans output shaft was 5/8" as it should be and it all seemed to be pretty good..

100_0428.jpg

And I got the trans in the truck - lol - need somewhere to kep it and the garage isn't that big...

100_0427.jpg

We have to wait for the garbage men to start work again so I can slear out a lot of junk and take some pics from the front - it was detailed the other day and man this truck looks good now.

Tomorrow I am assembling the heads, lifters, push rods and prepping the lower manifold and painting it.

The great thing is that I have so much stuff to do that if I hit a snag I can continue working and do other stuff so I am not wasting my time!

Merry Christmas everyone!!:cmas:

Re: 1992 Typhoon 0539 rebuild

btw dropping the feultank is easy. try to get it back in with 1/4 full, and with those short lines. your Ty was clean when you did it, mostly there is alot of shit resting on top of everything
