Re: 16" wheels lighter than stockers.

4th gen 16x8 F-body wheels are something like 6lbs lighter than Sy/Ty wheels. Offsets are close but you will need to use spacers in the back.

Got any pics of them?

What size spacer? They will fit,w/out spacer, but will look funny?

All of the replys I get from guys selling these wheels say they are 24-25 lbs each.

Thanks

Don't have any pics, but in this video you can see them pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59hwlefQOuE

I never weighed the rim by itself, but with tires mounted BFG Drag Radials they were 6lbs lighter in the back and 7lbs lighter in the front. Over my stock wheels with tires on them. Maybe it was all a diffrence in tire?:dunno:

I'll get a measurement on the spacers used. I did have to put longer studs in the rear to use the spacers. I'll also get you a exact weight of 97-99 camaro 5 spoke wheel and tire. They came either silver or chromed. I had mine painted black.

Sawblades w/drag radials?

Times where slower w/the sawblades? Heavier combo?

They had old road racing tires on them. We used a tire softner on them, but it didn't help with traction. This was before I got drag radials.

2 words: magnesium corvette wheels

They're not that light compared to the other factory Corvette wheels.

97-99 painted cast aluminum
Front--20.5/lbs
Rear--30.0/lbs

2000 early forged aluminum
Front--18.1/lbs
Rear--20.1/lbs

00-01 high polished
Front--18.1/lbs
Rear--20.1/lbs

00 2nd gen cast-01 cast aluminum
Front--18.1/lbs
Rear--20.1/lbs

98-01 Magnesium
Front--20.1/lbs
Rear--24.0/lbs

I was looking for a set until I found about the true actual weight of them.

I know these are 17's but these wouldn't look bad on the Ty and they don't weigh too much.

LTW5 BMW 17x9, ET41 offset, 16.4 pounds, $259

They also have a 17x8 that only weighs 15.5lbs

This might not be very helpful, but look up www.simmondswheels.com.au they custom make wheels to suit your needs. With the Australian dollar against the U.S.A. dollar could be a chaep way to get what you want. Cheap VERY light wheels including shipping. Please let me know if you have any sucsess...

I don't remember the years that fit. I had TSW S5s on my first Ty. 18 X 8. No spacers. 3 series front, 5 series on rear...Jim

Re: 16" wheels lighter than stockers.

Well,
finally got some GTA wheels & installed BFG Drag radial tire. Needs some good cleaning .

Maybe now I can get into the 1.6 60' range;)

I am running all four rims that are marked rear only.

My bathroom scale read 44 LBS total for one wheel. OK I guess? Not sure how accurate my bathroom scale is.

Re: 16" wheels lighter than stockers.

Looks nice.

I weighed the wheels & tires on my friends shipping scale.

Rims weighed 17- 17.5 lbs tire weighs 26 lbs.

So rim & tire weighed 43 - 43.5 pounds.

What does the stock rim & Firestone stock tires weigh?

Thanks

Re: 16" wheels lighter than stockers.

I weighed the stock rim & OG tire. My scale read 50 LBS

The GTA wheel & tire weigh 43.5 LBS so I dropped an easy 24-26 lbs of rotating weight.

Not bad for not spending too much$$$ Here are a few pics,,the offset is not great on the front,,,but they will work.

Re: 16" wheels lighter than stockers.

Just a side note on the GTA wheels.

Even though the front has the incorrect offset/backspacing,,,they did not rub @ all even going over some dips

My wheels are a bit beat up, but if you polish these rims & paint them,,,,they look really nice IMO ,,,,,but I just got them mainly because they are lighter,,the good looks where a nice bonus feature.
