03 Cobra?

I have a friend with an "03 Cobra with chip, pulley, K & N, and not much else. He refuses to run on anything but street tires. He has gone 12.01 @ 116 or 117. And he weighs 315 lbs. Put a driver weighing 150 lbs less and put on some drag radials and he would go at least 11.7's at 120 or so. Better have a fairly pumped up SyTy to keep up with one like that. I couldn't keep up with him in my mildly modded Ty. Of course he didn't want to race the 87 Buick.

Well my sy isnt all that pumped up but the track a cville is 1000'. So if he is runnong street tires I am not all that worried. Dont think he will be able to make up the starting line jump. Although cville does hook pretty well. But the better it hooks for him the better it will hook for me. With the new tires I just got I am doing 1.65 60' on the street so I am hoping for 1.60 this weekend.

I'm sure many of you remember Mark Larson(buster) here on the SyTy board. He sold his truck and bought an 03 cobra coupe. He's got nitto DR's, a pulley, K&N, and a chip. In the cool MN fall weather he g-teched a best of 11.5 @ 121mph and a pile of 11.80-11.70's.

There were a couple at National Trail (Columbus, OH) during the past summer. Two different guys (one who was a former Lightning owner) both ran 12.9's completely stock. The one car had only 500 miles on it. They're fast no doubt. Think I might have a poor quality vid of it.

Did you guys race?

THey will fly with very little in mods thats for sure. There is a guy with a blue one that runs at Martain. Last season on the street tires I killed him in the 60ft, then he flew by me. BTW my 01' S-10 is not slow. He was runnin high 11's low 12's all night with no traction pullin 118+MPH traps. he had a pully, chip, magnaflow exuast, and a CAI.

I was wondering if any of you guys have raced one? Now I know you guys running in the low 11's will beat most of them, but how about you guys in the mid-high 12's? I know alot of the 03 owners are making a big stink on the ls1 sites, they think there god now...
Hey I just raced one the other day in a 87 gn and I'd say if you dont run faster than 12s your probably going to get smoked. Ofcourse the cobra had a few mods and looked good on take off sporting a set of Nitto drag radials. It has a clean take off when they hook. But then again he still got smoked. :D

I was at a Ford Stealership a few Sunday's back and met a few guys 'test driving' an '03 Cobra. Turns out the front seat passenger was the Manager there (also a former Turbo T-Type owner!!) and was letting a friend drive it. Anyway, long story short, I 'happened' to get beside him on the bypass at about ~50mph. We looked at one another and smiled, then both mashed on it. By the time I hit triple digits, which AIN'T very long  , I had three cars on him. Damn my truck is running good! :D

Syclone697 I am going back to cville in a couple of weeks. I am fianaly getting an ultimate chip. Yea no more 2 bar! What kind of times did the cobra run? I am hoping to beat my 10.07@100.4 We will see.

That was actually 11.5's @ 127, but we figured the actual MPH was closer to 121-122. The cobra is a bad car, setup properly with less than $1000 they will out run most syty's. I love syclone and am considering another one, but the cobra is far more upgradeable.

The only thing the cobra really needs is a auto tranny. With a good auto, pulley, chip, tires, and exhaust I'm about 99% sure a 10 second pass is possible. There have already been cobras to do this without the auto, but I don't think they run consistent.
