Yeah 91 octane is considered "premium" fuel in California...ack! I just run the truck way rich to compensate.

OK, my truck sounds just like everyone's, anything a 1/4 or under and well you goes know what happens!!

I have a S-series blazer I bought for parts for the sy and I've been kicking around the idea of putting in the fuel tank out of the blazer to eliminate the starvation and help with weight distribution (not all the weight on one side), I junked the spare when I got the truck so I should have enough room.

Any thoughts or anyone ever tried this?

I took a stock Ty 20 gal and made it a 15 gal by cutting the bottom end 1/4s out. When my gauge is 1/2 full I have five gallons (instead of 10). I put a drain in it also so I can run race full whenever and drain it easily.

When I had the lower ends of the tank cut open I installed a Baffle plate over the slosh tub. This stopped any slosh problems. I also installed a Baffle to keep fuel from climbing up the back wall of the tank.

I ran a dual pump setup in the this tank (a single pump setup fits in the same way) until a couple if years ago and now run an external pump.

I did it to both sides...

I did it to have a smaller tank on the bottom half (about the size of a fuel cell). I also got rid of fuel slosh and can run with 2-3 gallons of gas at the track without problems. By doing it this way (instead of a fuel cell) I can still fill it to 15 gallons for cruising and use the stock fill tube, brackets, etc.

I had the same problem, i fixed it with Holleys in-tank multi-point fuel pick up kit. Now i dont even have to have a 1/4 tank to launch with out bogs and the truck feels a lot lighter than havin 3/4s more of fuel. I placed one pick up in the front and one in the rear of the tank and the check valves always keep air out of the lines.
Im a Holley Perf. distributor and if you guys want i could make you a group sell and hook you up significantly lower than summit's pricing.

:popcorn2: Part number please and does it require any modifications to work?

Re: 1/4 Tank of fuel and starvation under boosted launch

While re-reading the Holley catalog i noticed it says all the way in bottom it is for an in line pump ( P/N 12-920 ) and i called the automotive electrician that installed my internal warlboro, meth syst, FPR, gauges, etc and asked him if he had installed them and he says he did but im doubtin he did. He once said he had replaced a IAC valve that was gettin stucked and next day it got stuck again i noticed he had only cleaned it and installed it right back so i have my doubts now, im goin to check this comin week when we get the bed off the chassis for paint.

PS. Im sorry if i misslead anyone and/or sounded like i dont know shit what i was talkin about but im goin to check and clear if it can be done or not, my apologies guys.

Too bad we can run similar to what the f-bodies have. Basically a canister that surrounds the pump that is always filled with fuel from the return line:

Ok, went out and checked out the new style hanger. In order to make this work you would have to graft the bottom half of the new hanger with the top half of the old hanger so that the lines would be the same, etc. I haven't looked at the tops of the two to tell what's different, so this is just a theory right now.

Basically, go here for an explaination of how the new set up works:

This can be done, just need the time and cash.

Ok, we got the bed off and pulled the FP's tray off, it didnt have it. Tried locatin the dude but he doesnt work there anymore. The mod can be done but its not as easy, you have to place the pick ups with a fuel filter on each hose, then run a long enough hose so you can hook it up to the FP. Its not easy but can be done, as for the pick up kit it's obsolete now and the only wat to get one now are swapmeets and e bay.

My apologies, i didnt drive it long enough to notice before it burnt the trans and have only been drivin it for very short periods since the trans was re-installed.

Re: 1/4 Tank of fuel and starvation under boosted launch

someone sent me a writeup for sytyarchives a while ago... never made it up to the site and I've been smacking myself in the head because I cant find any records of it.

He basically attatched a hose to the pickup of the pump, and just routed to the back of the tank. I dont recall exactly the methodology or if anything else was involved, but when I mistakenly did the intersection bog last week it got me thinking about it again.

Re: 1/4 Tank of fuel and starvation under boosted launch

I know Barry Tisdale did this on his Sy. Unfortunately whatever he used to attach things (I think it was some sort of sealant or RTV) eventually degraded and he recommended you don't use it.

I actually searched and found that I had a copy of everything Barry did:

http://www.geocities.com/w_bowley/images/fuelpump/install.html

Note the blue silicone that Barry used. That is what he recommended you DO NOT use when doing something like this.

I went looking for the pictures of the Holley kit and found it at:

http://bigredheep.com/forumnews-id-3932.html

Looking at the installation, I don't believe that you could use this with the stock fuel pump without making modifications to the inlet as the sock is over it.

Re: 1/4 Tank of fuel and starvation under boosted launch

i have been doing some fab work for some time now.....

i have been assembling a fuel cell that bolts into the stock location....uses the stock fuel pump hanger assy and fill tube and will eliminate this problem....it has a lil way to go and will have to be tested before it will be available to fellow members.

if it all comes together it will be offered in a 10 and 15 gal version only.but there are still a few more things to do to it before we have to worry about that.
