ZQ8 upgrade questions

I finally got my hands on a ZQ8 box and I had a couple of questions. It's from a salvage yard, so what is a good way for me to flush this thing out before I do the swap on my Ty? As for the pitman arm, I understand that I use the existing arm on the Ty now and put it on the ZQ8 box? Will I need to get an alignment after putting the ZQ8 box on? And do the existing fittings on the lines fit the ZQ8 or do I need to get adapters? Thanks!

Re: ZQ8 upgrade questions

I just installed mine about a week ago. I put on a new stock pitman arm. But my stock one was fine and could have probably been reused. Alignment wise, I think I remember reading that you'll need one. I actually haven't drove mine since the new box so I have no experience. The fittings were all the same, just make sure you put new O-rings on all the lines.

As far as flushing, I just turned the pitman arm on the steering box while it was all out and it moved out most of the fluid. I'm sure someone will have a better way to do it. Really shouldn't be anything too dirty in there anyways.

Good luck with the swap:D

Appreciate the info. My dad actually said the same thing...just cycle the box to squirt it all out. I'll have to find a place here in Rednecks-ville that can do an alignment on a Ty...LOL

Re: ZQ8 upgrade questions

Alignment is not required as the pitman arm only goes on one way so you cant screw it up.

The pitman arm can go on wrong if you don't pay attention when you take the old one off; ask me how I know. The grooves do make it idiot proof, almost.

I Didn't get an alignment, it drove straight, with no pull. bit my steering wheel was 12-20 degrees off, lol

My steering wheel was off too when I put the zq8 box on. Truck drove straight but the steering wheel wasn't straight. weird how that happens. I even pulled the the box off to make sure I put the pitman arm on right. :dunno:
