WTB: Tahoe/Yukon

With our first child on the way, the wife and I are in the market for a larger ride. We're pretty flexible on what we want but would like something within the following criteria:

- 2000-2005 model
- Tahoe/Yukon/Denali (prefer the GMCs)
- 5.3L or 6.0L (if Denali)
- 2WD preferred (but 4WD will work, and AWD if Denali)
- Leather
- 3rd row seating
- Less than 120k miles (prefer less than 100k)
- Would like a darker color (charcoal, black, dark blue, etc...)
- Southern truck preferred
- Clean title
- Less than $10,000

I know that's fairly stingy on the price, but I can find 'em locally around that price but usually the wrong color or 4WD or no 3rd row. I know distance is an issue, and I'd ideally like to find one within 200-300 miles (of Savannah, GA), but if someone has a local one that is a great deal, I would be willing to travel beyond that and would love to have a local "take a look at it".

We have cash in hand and plenty of time (baby due in June), so no big rush.

Thanks in advance!

No way dude....you're TOTALLY in the ballpark on price, especially with a "standard" Yukon. To be honest, I've never seen a 2WD Yukon. Of course I'm in New England though. The Denali may be a price stretch, but I have found them for $10k all day long, but you might need to travel. What I've found, that's odd, is that the price on a Yukon XL and Denali XL seem to be a little softer than the price on a standard size Yukon. I think a lot of people don't like the size of a "Suburban", so many times, you can get a 2002 Yukon XL loaded for less than a regular 2002 Yukon. Its just a matter of whether you want the extra vehicle.

You may need to travel to find what you're after. We're holding out for 3rd row, but DEMAND 2nd row buckets, so that whoever crawls into the back, doesn't have to go over the nice leather seats. Rear buckets are super nice, but real tough to find in a Yukon (easier in Denali / Escalade).

I nabbed an incredible score on a '01 Yukon SLT with 140k last year (4x4) for $3,800. I use it mainly for plowing / kid hauling / boat hauling, and we've been on the lookout for a replacement Denali or Escalade (same AWD 6.0 combo). I personally prefer the Yukon, but my wife would prefer the AWD where you don't have to choose between 2WD, and 4WD. You mash the gas and go. And of course the 6.0 has balls.

Finally, and this is important. 2002 was the FIRST YEAR with Yukons, where they put in the little metal hooks in the backs of the seats for snapping carseats into. Our 2001 doesn't have it, and it SUCKS WICKED HAAAAD strapping carseats in with the seatbelts. Enough so that I've been on the lookout for a set of 2002 rear seats, just to get the latches. They are SO nice.

EDIT

Some other factoids when you're looking.

2000 is the first year of the new style Tahoe / Yukon.
2000 Yukon DENALI is the old style Yukon platform.
2001 Yukon DENALI is the first year of the new style Denali.
2002 is the first year for the new style Escalade. No 2001 Escalade was made.
2002 is the first year for carseat latches built into a GMC. Dunno about Escalade, but I assume so.
2003 is the first year where you got steering wheel volume controls.

From 2004 onward.......they were too expensive to look at for me (I was also looking at under $10k), so I never did any in depth research past 2003.

Re: WTB: Tahoe/Yukon

dont bother with a rust belt truck the newer 2001 and up rust fast,

Bodywise, not really. The underneath peripherals....definitely. I was looking in the south, but bought mine strictly because of the price. Since then, I've had to put in new brake lines, fuel lines, and the rear brake dust shields have rotted off.

Bodywise though....it seems to be holding up very well. A trouble area on those rigs are the rocker panels, but with the plastic running boards, they are well protected. (had to pull one to do brake lines, and the body was still real nice for being a lifelong VT truck).

You can't get much worse than a VT rig, and I'm fairly impressed with how the body has held up.
**fingers crossed**

Re: WTB: Tahoe/Yukon

im so glad i have never had to deal with rust. It might be worth a plane flight to the southwest to pick up a clean no rust all highway vehicle. Also private party is the way to go. Too many dealers patch and hide things on high mile vehicles.

Re: WTB: Tahoe/Yukon

i have a 04 denali, had for goin on 5 years now.. drive it year round and our winters aint to nice.. i havent had one problem with anythin rusting.. no even on the underside of the truck.. i did lose 3rd when the truck hit 100k last year, and the air ride control pump just went out a few months ago.. but other then that, i dont think i could ever get rid of it.. i love it, and they hold their value alot better then the other models.. mine still books at around 16k
