Looking for a Stock OE Camshaft.

Found a few online, Figure I would check here first. I recall a few guys who bought a bunch of parts lots and had a bunch of stuff left.

I have a Comp 412 in one truck, A Comp 422 in another. I am just looking for a basic OE style. Nothing crazy.

I have my original syclone cam I pulled out @ 80k. I hoped to use and my guy said it's not the best idea. I wanted to reuse it but re-chalking things now..

I found a few cams online and they are not what I'm looking for. I bagged that idea after I spoke to comp this morning.

I checked the number on one of my spare engines Here. The cam is wiped out but has a 10***176 stamped into it which tells me its a lesser version of the early vin z ***474 cam.

I pulled my original syclone cam out hoping it was the early "z" cam with slightly milder lobe stock.

Here when I looked the # over nothing cross ref
Its 12***148 and have No clue what it is. It was the original cam from my sy.

I hoped to use the cam but wanted to start with identifying it and knowing what it is.

Edit: I rechecked some of my notes, the cam must be a early throttle body model vin z but the 12*** number threw me off. My notes say its supposed to be a 10***. The 12 and 10 prefix confuse me and I'm not sure what the difference is.

The ***474 says it a specific "turbocharged" camshaft. I *thought* my early syclone would have it. Whatever it is it is. I probably am going to have to source a new cam.

Yes 4714, I entered it wrong. That's for this "turbo" version.

I pulled one out that read different. (1991 sy)

And I just started taking apart my 93 motor and it has a 10***176 original cam?

I have 1991,1992 and 1993 engines.

The cams have the last 3 digits of the P/n stamped into the cam between the last lobe and the distributor gear. The SyTy cam is a 10214714. This cam is not the same as a LB4 TBI cam.
I have seen "714" on known-original Typhoon cams.
I have a cam out of DesertSy, but I suspect it is not the original to the truck as the block was bored .030 prior to 1997 when the previous owner acquired it. It does not have OEM markings. You may have it for $20 + shipping if you actually use it.

1987- ’91 VIN "Z": The original roller cam used for the throttle body motor was a 10088148 or a 14093686. I just verified that a cam in my stash that I KNOW came out of a 1991 TBI 4.3 is indeed a 148, and I found the markings.

1992-’94 VIN "Z" WITHOUT BALANCE SHAFT: The specs for this cam were comparable to the earlier VIN "Z" cams, but the base circle on both the intake and exhaust was reduced to 1.260?. The OEM part numbers are 10144176, 10214713 and 10172776.

I'd like to see pics of the rods, piston tops, and the front pad stamping for this engine. It has a LB4 cam. I suspect this is a replacement engine with non SyTy configuration. It wouldn't be the first "wrong" replacement engine to show up. And look for the "N" on the center bearing caps.

I thought this block was a remanufactured block. Like it may of went early, and was replaced by GM.

I looked at the rods, they are the Romulus Stamping. Pistons are the same as every other syty. Dished hypertutetic.

I have a small amount of info like crank casting, rod # and know it has the syty pistons. Was not able to identify any stamping or further block # YET... As the hot tank was being serviced. Once the block is cleaner I'll be able to look for these numbers but I thought it was a warranty engine

I would check the engine block numbers to see if they are original SyTy motors. Quite a few owners blew the motor up even under warranty.

Just so where on the same page-

the 10***176 cam is pulled directly from my 1993 Typhoon engine. Suspected it to be a warranty motor. Sorry if one can not make out the pictures, I did the best I could with the MACRO feature on the camera to try and capture the stamped #s.



The cam has a lobe wiped out- or it was a bad casting. Not sure if a lifter can divit the surface like photoed. Almost like it collapsed..the material on the lobe, and the camshaft was outside so in my shed so it is a bit "frosty" looking-

This is my Original syclone cam I pulled out my self a few years back and stored because I thought I may be able to use it in the future. 1991 OE syclone camshaft reads 12***148, and was all original before I got it. ( I changed the cam)

Still back to not sure what the 12 prefix is?

I will look at mine sometime later this month. My garage is snowed in and I can't access it.
