Re: worst day ever...truck wrecked

Well im glad you werent hurt, and glad you have decided to fix the truck. Id say that youll probably be better off getting a new frame, as depending on how bad the damage is it can cost more on a frame puller then it does to get a new frame and start fresh, then you can work on getting the back half done before really tearing into the truck.

As for the VIN, i believe when you remove the dash the vin plate comes with it, if not it is just riveted to the body, and can be easily transferred, and as long as you plan to keep the truck the legality of it is prety mute. But when it comes time to sell it, just be sure to give the new owner all the info so they know what they are buying.

Also if you do swap cabs, be sure to remove the stock console mounts welded to the floor of your cab as no other S10 will have the right mounts in it.

Good luck on the rebuild, and please post some pics.

The VIN is riveted to the cab. They don't use any ordinary rivet, they used a special rivet that suposedly only manufacturers & DOT have access to. Getting VIN's swapped is legal is actually very difficult to do and often most state will given a replacement vin (which will be a random number, not your original)

If you were to use ordinary rivets and an in spection station were to notice, you would have a good chance of having your truck impounded. Especially if you swap the frame, you will be hard pressed to get you truck given that now it will have different cab, fame and motor. From a fed perspective, you truck would scream of stolen vehicle.

you can get bthe rivets on ebay, if you pull the dash the VIn is riveted to a plate thats welded into the cab , remember the frame has a VIN on it also

Warning: Never, Never, Ever transfer a vin from one vehicle to another unless you are bore with life and looking for some excitement in the wrong way, As you could end up being bubba friend or playmate if you know what I mean. :rotf: Now there are some (very few) exceptions to this rule but that would make a very long post to list them and it very from state to state.

:rotf:
Well.....there's a white 91 S10 for about 2 grand not far from my house that has a very straight body/frame.....Just looking at the damage on my truck...the best route may be to just transfer everything from my GT onto this truck....interior...engine/trans..cladding...then back half the S10. I don't plan on ever selling the truck...so I guess the vin wouldn't be that big of a deal....idk..

I'm not sure really..my mind is still going a mile a minute trying to figure out what the hell to do.

Heh...all in good time...

But seriously...what do you guys think?

Here's what my thoughts are: Get a body man to check out my cab and see what he thinks.....if it is useable...then I'll use the cab and replace the door/fender/bed/frame. If he thinks the cab is screwed....than buy an S10 and basically clone it into a GT?

If you want to, I have a complete Sy roller if you're interested. It's the remnants from my Sy body swap, so it has an actual Sy VIN on it. Plus it's local. :)

Re: worst day ever...truck wrecked

Yea...I'll get some pics up sometime guys...just gimme abit. I don't have a working camera at the moment.

Some good news...my dad saw an 89 s10 on craigslist last night with no motor/tranny for $100 bucks. Yes....that is right...complete truck minus motor and tranny for 100 dollars.. The guy who owns the S10 says it is in pretty good shape. So ....should have a donor truck by tomorrow.

So it looks like instead of just backhalving my truck like orginally planned...the build might be alittle more in depth...
