Wide band O2 connection

I found a few links such as the one on Detroit turbo's web site regarding the install of the plx wide band onto the stock ECM. IT is a bit confusing and unclear to me where to put the resistors.

I know you need two resistors to enable the ECM to talk to tuner pro.

So, which wires are hooked to the resistors? the PLX black and grey, are the connected to say, black to one side of the resistor and the Gray to the other side of the resistor, then the tails of each black and gray to the ECM? And then what about the purple wire, which I think goes to the O2 sensor. I think that has a resistor connected to it, I'm just not quite sure if anything goes on the opposing side of the resisotr to the purple wire.
On the link and the instructions on the video, it does not clearly say if you need to connect both sides of the resistor or just one wire to one side of each resistor.

I konw the plx black and grey wires are to the ECM. This link is one where I was found some info. There's also a video on Tuney Fish that has a video, however, it does leave out some critial information regarding the purple wire where each side of the resistor goes to.

Thank you guys for the help!!!

Re: Wide band O2 connection

I don't know where these "resistors" are coming from... no such thing is necessary.
The PLX install recommends a capacitor between the signal wire and ground, which the install shows:

fetch.php

Outside of that, all you need is a code59 bin or a patched stock-style bin.

Re: Wide band O2 connection

Thanks for the info dig! One video references a purple wire near E14.

So, all I need to do is to put the capacitor between the black and gray wire that runs from the plx wide band into the ECM @ spaces B9 and F14, that is it?

Thank you for the help!

Yup, that's a pic from my install.... from this thread... http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=48363&highlight=plx
... yes, that is all you have to do. Make sure the legs of the capacitor are insulated with small heatshrink, as there is voltage on them.

Re: Wide band O2 connection

I just got my PLX wide band from Detroit Turbo, Thank you Scott!

Now, a few questions. I recenlty watched the video on the tunyfish site for the PLX install part 4. That video references the purple wire in position E-14 and it says to put a capacitor between the black wire that goes to B9 and to the PLX unit. If I understand it correctly, its' telling me to connect the other side of the capacitor on the balck wire connected to B-9 to the purple wire that goes into position E-14.

Yet here on this thead, I was understading all I needed to do was to connect the black wire and gray wire with a capacitor bewteen these two wires which then are plugged into B-9 for black, F-14 for Gray and that's it.

So, Do I need to connect another capacitor between B-9 and the purple wire on E-14?

Regarding the analog input, power for the PLX and the display gauge. how do I hook power up to the plx box and corretly attach the gauge display?

The gauge has a 4 pin plug that looks like it belongs in the analog spot. The gauge has a black wire attached to it, with the 3.3v black/white striped wire not attached to the plug. Now, I also have a black/red wire combo and a grey wire. I assume the black and grey wires are the ones that will be connected to B9 and F14. Where do these wires go on the 4 port analog plug that plugs into the plx box? I have a black one from the display gauge to the upper left side of the 4 pin plug alreay attached. I have one empty one on the bottom left, one empty port on the bottom right and one empty one on the top right.
I assume the black/red wire is for power to the plx box.

Thank you all for clearing up this confusion...or my confusion:turbo:

Re: Wide band O2 connection

Ok, I am kind of figuring this thing out.

I noticed the power goes to the inlet on the far left. So the black wire attached to the red for power goes to a common ground.

Now, the analog plug. I have the 3.3v power for gauge which is already connected.
* I am assuming the second blk wire attached to the gauge is my ground and it belongs on the lower left outlet of the plug.
* The gray one I think goes to teh lower right into the WB port, correct?
* And what goes into the upper right plug port for the NB? Nothing?

Thanks for the help:tup:

Re: Wide band O2 connection

Ok, I could not find part 3 on the Tunyfish website but I finally found part 3 in two different versions.. What's up with that?

Yes, my last post is correct confirmed for the gray wire from video part 3.

Now, for the black wire.
* Do I supply the black wire or I do use a wire in the kit?
* Do I hook up a black wire to the ground of the analog port on the lower left port to the ecm b9 to the capacitor?
* Do I hook the ground for the analog to the frame?

And, the purple wire. Do I use the capacitor on the purple to black wire, or not?

Thanks again:lol:

Re: Wide band O2 connection

Guys,

sorry for all of the post. consequenlty, the tuneyfish site and all the related video's regarding the plx install are a bit confusing with a some very critial info left out for the wide band install.

I think I may have it figured out..think

Is slot B9 alread present? And now, all I have to do is tap into B9 with the capacitor? The "black wire" was not provided and all I can think after looking over the instructions and the video's is that the black wire is an exhisting wire that does not connect to the plx box, but it does connect to the ecm.

Can anyone help me out here please:hissyfit:

Try this-I also found the videos confusing. You need to supply the black wire your self,HTH

Re: Wide band O2 connection

Steve,

OK, after reading multiple posts and watching the vid's, I was under the impression that the black wire was already in my ECM and all I needed was to tap into the black wire on B9.

Regarding the vid's on Tuneyfish. I found a few different video's as for directions to part 2 and part 3 for the WBO2 installation. That makes things a bit confusing....OK, alot confusing:rant:

Now, Black wire. I know it goes to B9 on the ECM. By looking at your diagram the black wire does in fact go to the PLX ground port, correct?

Also, do I need to run a wire to the Normal Band port and to F-4 on the ECM with a capacitor?

And what about the purple wire on port E-14??? do I need to use a capacitor on that wire on to the black wire? I see in your thread, you made reference to a wire to run nbo2 on port E4, or was that a mistake and supposed to be E14 instead of E4?

Thanks for the help:tup:

My drawing is INCORRECT.
First did you wire your dm5 and verify it is working?
Next are you running 2 or 1 O2 sensors?
If running 1 O2 then I wouldn't concern myself eith the Purple wire..
On the 4 connector on the sm AFR module, The top left (3.3V) the black/white and black that came with the kit gets connected there(the plain black) is not used.
The GND connector is where you run another black wire that will connect to B9
The WB " " " " " the gray wire to F14
The NB (if using 1 O2) would tap into the purple wire(which is the signal wire from the stock O2).
Does this make sense?
On the DM5 hookup the module gets its power from the red/black-the Gage gets power from the Blackwhite/black wire 93.3v).
This is how mine is hooked up and have no issues. Don't forget the caps. This is not gospel-so anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Wide band O2 connection

Steve,

THANK YOU:woot:

I plan on using the WBO2 sensor in place of my stock NBO2 sensor. I"m running code 59.

You drawing has a second lower 1/2 that looks to be correct in what I"m looking for. The top half of that drawing say it's not correct, but I'm assuming the lower is correct.

black/white alread attached goes to my display gauge
Does the display for the DM5 need anything else or does it get it's power from the connection to the PLX box? I was under the impression the DM5 will get it's power from the analog plug.

Gray goes to the WBO2 port on the lower right and to ECM port F-14

Black goes to ground, Do I put it at the lower left for ground port on the analog plug on the plx box
which will go to B-9 on the ECM?

capacitor goes between gray and black wire.
Power goes to a piggy back fuse adapter and to my fuse pannel to power the PLX BOX.

I am a little confused on this statement;
The NB (if using 1 O2) would tap into the purple wire(which is the signal wire from the stock O2).
I'm running code 59 and I thought that all I needed to do is to attache the gray/black wire for the WOB2. I"m only runing the WBO2 once I figure this out.

Thank you for your help!
