Waterpump electric vs mechanical

O.K guys here,s the question i have replaced a few
mechanical water pumps already some just leak at the
bearings or are noisy when bearing goes bad i am looking
at some electric pumps from CSR or MOROSO they have a limit
working hours of 2000 what do you think for a street - strip use SY !!! :D

A little quick math says at an average of 35 mph over the life of it would last you 70,000 miles. I have had one on a street strip camaro 350 and it worked just fine. I like them for whatever application.Then again I rarely ever drive in extreme heat so.

Great to know that my Sy truck does drive to shows and
street drag races but done most at night when the traffic
is clear you get my drift !!! ;)

I have thought about this myself. A few years ago, I talked to a Moroso rep at a Good Guys car show and he said he wouldn't run one in a daily driver type set up or even in a mostly street car. He said they are not reliable in that way. However, I thought about just trying it anyway.

And did you install one lately i saw a Chevy Camaro small block
with an electric waterpump and the owner has it for 3 years now with
no issue noted he said it is better than the stock pump !!

Uh no. Should I ? If it was a fabulous idea, don't you think car manufacturers would put use them? I spent a good amount of time to talking to vendors and local shops about it and it seem if you gained anything it would be marginal at best. It would really be just a "thats cool" factor and rather pointless. I like to drive my TY anywhere and not be a slave to down time if possible so lets say I tried out the EC and it broke while I was 100 miles from home. You think I want to wait in some random town for three days waiting for a new pump when I could just stroll to any parts store and there is a 90% chance they have a stock one? Think about it......:tup:

Major no way, from where it took me, when I tried one, in the past. Csi pumps flow full force all the time, the draw is high so alternator makes more load, there goes the gain over mechanicalwater pump parasitic gains. The Csi Pump I had was a fine unit, caused my temp to creep to overheat at freeway speeds in summer 102 f days. I think it was pushing water thru the thermost "acted like it was stuck open".

If you have the desire to buy one , do it . Will you notice anything different afterward , probably not .

They do look pretty though .

Thats what I have always heard, but it was from the old school guys ... not sure if the newer products are any better ---

The site hasn't exactly been updated with regularity. Perhaps he changed to an electric pump since Nov. 23rd, 2010.

I dunno (don't really care either), just the only Syclone I could find on that obfuscating site. Though I did find it funny that one of the members is a pro web designer. ;)

Correct that is my Sy with the rainbow colors it was then
with a Edelbrock mechanical waterpump after it started to leak
at the bearings i replaced it with a CSR unit now it looks great
only for show and drag races !! :tup:
