upper intercooler ?

I opened my upper intercooler cap after running the vehicle and inside was a bunch of foam looking stuff. Was coolant, but foamy or very frothy.

Is there issues? Or a common thing ?

Worked on truck and was able to remove a bunch of stuff and replace which was a step forward. Did it to get a belt on the system to charge battery and cycle fluids. I was hoping it would go out of closed loop. (At least that's what I think it is) ...trying to get it up to temp and see if the CEL will stop blinking. It still blinking when jumped out now. Not seeing and new codes.

Its just the coolant is low in their. The best thing i did was take the over flow line off of the over flow bottle and tie into the radiator over flow line. I used to get the foam all the time, hasnt happened again since i moved it.

Re: upper intercooler ?

Thanks everyone. I don't have much expirence with these setups, its the first thing I removed and replaced with a air to air unit on my syclone, and would really of liked to use a board members intercooler core this time around but I don't think thats going to work out.

I thought something was damaged really bad..?

Does this foaming verify my Intercooler charge air cooler pump is working? I can't verify if its on or off. I pulled a switch out which was added on the light switch console. Maybe its still HotWired? And running. Think is only time I heard it run.. Was when I was sitting in truck nothing g on or running and I jumped out the aldl test port.

If its at least foaming, it should be working. Just run the engine and slowly add water to the intercooler. If it is working, you will see the water actually flowing in one direction in there. Ive found it best to jack the front of the truck up and then fill it up to get all the air out. Also make sure that the water inlet to the intercooler is on the top nipple on the back side there.

Re: upper intercooler ?

I was just messing with the truck about 5 min ago and did not see any flow or movment in the intercooler.

I don't think its working. Only time I hear it run is when I jump the aldl port and that just seems crazy. ( no idea where to begin there was a ic switch tapped into some green wire with white stripe where the defogger switch was...)

On a positive note the truck is idling pretty good now, quited down substantially from putting a qt. Of oil in it and I dumped in some high test gas to clear the shit out in there. Pretty sure the truck has been parked for 2 years and I'm up against the problems of it sitting.

I will try and make a attempt to do plugs and wires asap OR at least pull plugs and identify. Truck has a very slight miss.. And smells like fuel out the tail pipe. Not sure if the miss is a part of the bad fuel , bad wire/plug so on.

Unless your chip is tuned to run the pump on all the time, or you did the relay mod, or the temps get high enough, your pump wont run regardless.

Foam

Foam

Foam is typically a result of an air pocket. Keep bleeding the air out and you should just see coolant flowing quickly. Check lines for kinks and leaks.

I use water wetter during the summer.

Re: upper intercooler ?

Just want to give this thread a quick update

I was messing around with the pump and the hose clamps when I noticed the top hose was kinked pretty bad. The kink was almost a 90* angle from top portion of pump to the top barb on the intercooler. The flow had to of been so badly restricted it was forcing any liquid it could through minimal hose and it was foaming/frothing.

I tried to position the ic pump and move the hose around still seems to be kinked. I'll have to remove the top hose and lengthen it with new hose. Its that short. I'd like to remove the whole system all together but I don't have a air to air yet to replace it all with.

Just a tip if your hard intercooler lines are removed, check your feed line for kink. When the hoses are installed there is no real way of knowing its not kinked.. Unless I am mistaken.

Re: upper intercooler ?

I am wondering if anyone has a Photo they can share or describe the lower top hose route. My hard lines have been deleted, and replaced with upgraded rubber. The top hose is kinked pretty bad and I'm not sure what the correct fix is. How do you normally transition or sweep the hose?

Again .. I deleted the factory setup on my syclone right off the bat and didn't really like the design. I replaced with a air to air unit.

Just lookin for ideas. It is kinked on a 90* angle like pinched shut.

Here's a pic. Pretty bad. I moved the hose around and try to re position pump...

I pulled that from behind the shroud. No matter what its still kinked . I pulled out to get a picture. When placed back its kinked just as bad. I don't have much expirence with the system.

Re: upper intercooler ?

Rotate the pump so it's not point toward the exhaust crossover. It should give you enough room to route the hose with a long sweeping bend that doesn't kink.

Re: upper intercooler ?

Are you going to run the new hoses thru the passenger side fender?just curious

Re: upper intercooler ?

No I do not plan on running them through the fender.. they are already ran above/below the dist. Along back of fire wall like the common one would run. I have seen this done before. Never have I read about or heard about a KINK.

Problem seems to be the hose is too short to begin with. I have no clue how it sweeps from factory or is plumbed in.

Goodyear makes a long section of 3/4" hose with a 90* on one end... Perfect for this application...

Re: upper intercooler ?

Just cut off a 3" piece of hose and attach it to the pump. Pick up a 3/4" brass 90 degree elbow and use that from that 3" hose to your hose to the intercooler. Thats how I did mine before I changed out to a completely different style pump.
