Typhoon tailgate hinge

Is the hinge mounted on the truck welded directly to the truck? Mine broke and I was wondering why I cannot find a replacement hinge anywhere. Someone please help me, the excessive squeaking from the rear is driving me bananas! :banghead:

Yes it comes off. Open the hatch and you will see the screws that secure it to the body.

There is a post, 5 posts down from this one, where hinge part numbers were thrownaround. I am still trying to confirm a good part number to order a new one from GMPartDirect.com.

I think he's talking about the tailgate, not the glass hinges. ;)

in which case he's screwed cause they are welded/glued to the body

Sorry.... I do think those are bushed though, similar to the bushings in our doors. You can buy them at most auto parts stores. As long as the old ones didn't let the pin wear into the hinge you'd be OK.

For what you are gonna pay your body shop you can prolly just go buy a cheap MIG welder and fix it yourself...

If the pin wears into the hinge you can just drill the hinge out and install a bushing in it.. GM prolly should have done it like that anyway...

Sorry to be really dense.....in the photos, those hinge pins are welded in there or is there a retainer holding the pin in? Trying to replace the tailgate. Youtube shows some doors being replaced and those hinge pins have a retainer but just staring at it I can't determine if its a retainer.

Thanks for your feedback....I am sure as soon as I post this the light bulb will go off...

Edit: checking out the parts stores I guess there there are "Door Hinge Bushings" which I assume are also in there....how the heck to get them out.
