Typhoon on E bay

Hi,
I just won high bidder on a 1992 Typhoon with 86,116 miles on it.
It looks clean and it seems from my limited knowledge to be real.
Does anyone know this truck?
It is in Massachusetts.
I ran the vin number and it seems to be off a digit.
Looks like two of the numbers are reversed.
When I ran it on Kelley Blue book it gave me the valid number and it is a Typhoon.
I always wanted one and I would hate to be taken .
Any help would be great.
I am going to look at it tomarrow or Friday before i pay in full.
By the way I won the item with a $8000.00 bid.
Thanks Neelsonwheels

yeah, looks like they switched the T and the C.

Can't really say much good or bad, it looks decent in the pictures, wheels need refinishing, but it looks pretty correct otherwise.

Purple window tint on the back leads me to believe the window was replaced at some point with a non-tinted glass and cheaply tinted to match the side windows.

Looks like its missing the door decals.

Gauge pod on the pillar indicates a couple of modifications. I think the top gauge says FUEL and that sucker is PEGGED! Might be an issue there.

No under hood shots makes me a little worried, you would think selling a performance vehicle, you would include at least 1 photo of the engine.

You should get yourself, or borrow, an adal cable and laptop with Datamaster on it. Then get a scan. Hopefully a fellow sytyer can check it out with you so you don't have any connection issues. DM will show the trucks basic health and if the truck is running an aftermarket chip or is stock tuned. Then you'll have a general idea what you're about to take on.
At very least bring a paper clip and trip the ECM into maintenance mode to find any codes...It's a quick way to find out if the intercooler pump works too.

Use the search function here if you need more details, very easy to find useful info. Also, really look under the dash and gauge cluster for any jerry rigging/tampering with the wiring and odometer.

Good luck, hopes it's a jem.

Re: Typhoon on E bay

Hi,
Just a update.
I checked the truck out and met the owner.
He is the second owner and was a friend of the original owner.
This guy has owned the truck since 1996.
I have seen the maintenance and repair records.
Oil every 3000 miles,steering gear replaced,speakers replaced,so on.
This main was the service manager at a Pontiac dealorship.
The badges that seem to be missing in the photos are actually in place on the door cowling.
The after maket tint was done to keep people from seeing the sterio equiptment that is mounted back there.
The guage issue. The fuel gauge is bad.He had the wiring and fuel system checked and
they found a bad gauge. e just hasn't gotten around to replacing it.It has a tune in it.
The truck shifts very firmly in first and second and launches like hell.
I have never had a ride in a SY or Ty so I was taken back a little.
The acceleration out of the whole is quite impressive.
I am happy to say that as of 2:00 PM Sunday she is mine.
I would like to thank everyone who posted and tried to help me during my purchase.

Congrats on the purchase. Now get ready for all the fun that comes with owning a SyTy!!

:D

Re: Typhoon on E bay

is it just me or does the mileage on the cluster look tampered with? However this is common with these trucks I guess...mine was rolled back...just my :2cents:

other than that! Nice truck! follow everyone's advice and get your hands on that aldl cable with datamaster or tunerpro... thats a very important step, so you dont end up like me with a blowm motor...

other than that, congrats! and enjoy it! :)

Re: Typhoon on E bay

The truck was crap!!
I passed on it after driving two hours to see it.
It looked good from about twenty feet.
Lot of rust and bad cladding.
The wiring was hacked and the wheels and tires looked like it sat in a junkyard for ten years.
I am back to the drwing board.
I would rather pay alot more for a southern truck.
Is it me or are all the syty's left for sale seem to messed with.
Seem to be alot of shady people out there trying to pass a polished turd onto someone else?
Does anyone know of a decent Syclone or Typhoon for sale out there?
Thanks

You're definitely right about a lot of them being messed with. No surprise they've been around for over a decade and sadly there will always be shady people selling anything and everything. There are some decent trucks still around. Good luck.
