typhoon 3lhm

Pretty sure the trans in my 1992 typhoon is a 3lhm (1993?). I don't know a lot about autos.. I have been behind a manual box most my driving time.

I finally got the typhoon 100% today. Well maybe not 100%...

Took it on a long stretch ride to " blow out some of the Cobb webs".. The issue that arose all the sudden was the shifts. It seems like shift 1 is OK but I think 2-3 the truck is really roaring. I wasn't sure if my tires were breaking loose (prop shaft out) but the truck made a real audible noise from 2-3 shift like it wound out 2. No serious slamming. Just ROAR like its slipping or something. Again, I don't know much. The syclone never made this noise. Aside from that I'm not sure if it will just go out or let loose.

I never messed with the TV adjustment on this truck. I do not know if anyone ever messed with it. All I did was remove the 3 fasteners that hold it on the plenum lay it aside for the injector swap out and bolted it back up.

Could low fluid caause this?

I did not put the shaft back in because I never got a straight answer in if I can bend my current bracket or I have to use a specifically bent bracket for prop shaft. I put a picture up of the prop shaft to see if anyone could chime in.

Re: typhoon 3lhm

I ended up working in the truck over the weekend. Didn't drive it and do any test rides. What I did was order a sport machine shift bracket and re installed the prop shaft. The truck was very squirrly with out it, especially in the wet weather. I decided I needed to install the prop shaft. Required this custom bracket.

I installed bracket and shaft. When I took for a ride I could hear a small scrape.

Now I am expirence a vibration that was not there with the prop shaft in. I did some searching and reading on the forum before I posted but I'm not sure what the vibe is. I read a bunch of diff. Reasons including TC, Flex plate, idler arm? Tires.. So on. Truck performed OK in rwd( no real audible scrape noises, or vibration. Just would slide out in wet weather once it seen a little rpm) There was a loud roar from the trans and RPM would go up but I still have no figured that out. If the trans is slipping or my rear wheels were breaking loose. The truck still revs up, in rpm as if wheels were breaking loose even with the prop shaft in.

At this point I'm not sure if its a bad front diff? Or a bad prop shaft?

Have you done a VC test. The Dave P test? I just did mine and turns out my VC is locked tight and needs replacement. You can do it with the Transfer case still in the truck and took me about 30mins. 25 of that was getting the prop shaft out.

I had a bad vibration at 40mph and pretty sure its because of the VC.

Or it could simply be a bad prop shaft. If you have a spare laying around switch them out..

Re: typhoon 3lhm

I did the VC test.

Watched a hand full of videos, read and read made sure I knew what I was doing before I went ahead and did test. What I can do is test the one I pulled out of the truck that I was told is bad. See if it has resistance or not because that's all I remember I was looking for in this VC test.

Shaft seems to be balanced. Maybe it needs to go abcertian way. Aren't there factory marks it needs to line up with that are yellow?
