Truck is cursed. need other opinions (BAD MISS)

Well the motors in everything complete all fluids great. Initial start up was good,exhuast clean idle perfect. about 20 minutes later pull the truckout and it has a slight miss. let it cool down check all wires to make sure non are burnt or not on the capp all the way. everything fine... drive it around the block and it barely moves. Get back to the shop and it has a hint of black smoke. Run some test to see what cylinder is missing and its number 4.

-First thought it was distributor (maybe pickup or module) have a rebuilt in box so i change

-Change plug wire, and spark plug. plug came out wet.

-With multi meter check injector 13omhs (there old stockers new ones are around 16)

-With furl pressure in the lines give injector power just to see maybe it was clogged. It opens fine.

-Have injector pulse. Checked with noid light.

-Have good spark on the cap remove cap and rotor clean everythings there (brand New).

-Try another coil, thinking maybe it was a problem that comes and goes.

-Remove MSD and gets worse.


So at this point in lost. The only other idea i have is that maybe i tighten to rocker to much, cause i have adjustable ones but it started up fine and ran fine for about 20-30 minutes. But i dont know how that could effect it.

SO IF ANYONE HAS SOME IDEA TO THROW OUT THERE PLEASE PLEASE CHIM IN!!!!!!!.

Also is the fuel injection we have sequential or does it fire in batch (all at once)????

sounds like my problem. Check the #4 again. Mine was on #1 and now #1 is fine but I still get the miss. I am in the same boat as you WTF!

this is the reason why I paid to have everything done so all I had to do was get in turn the key and say bye.

.... i work on cars for a living. Even the guy you bring it to has problems. no ones perfect.

i would swap injectors to see if the miss follows the injector. check your rockers cuz maybe there not opening the valve or a lifter collapsed

i didnt think that far, you really think a lifter could of gone bad? ok ill take the valve cover off and jump in!

You said the plug came out wet. I'll assume you mean fuel. To me that means low, or no, compression. Yur checking that. No spark, you've checked that. Do the inj swap and see what happens. I believe the fuel inj fires 3 then the other 3, back and forth. Not for sure on that.

i'd squirt some oil into the spark plug holes and see if compression comes up as well

ok in the morning ill switch injectors. then ill try the compression check after i check the valves

OK... finally getting somewhere now. i did a compression test and there was 0 compression so i took the valve cover off to find a rocker arm off. i must of forgot to tighten the set screw. so i fixed the dead cylinder problem. now it just has a slight miss.

so you fixed it? change your plug on the dead cylinder if you already havent't

Why dont some of the members explain the final fix?? Its all about learning about our sy/tys...So i thought? The problems are spread out all over the forum. And great advice is given. But hardly anyone will give us the grand finale on solving the issues ... Please people, tell us what you did to fix your truck. or is it a secret? Enquiring minds wanna know. :roll:

I had that same problem bad miss and # 4 plug was wet all the time. I did a compression check and all 6 looked good 155psi. I changed the plugs twice plug wires and cap and rotor. Still missed. Turns out dist cap even though new, it was bad. I put a MSD cap on and it ran smooth. Go figure!! I spent 3 days trying everthing and it was a DOA dist cap.
